Most older weapons had that trait, where things that affected critical hit only worked for the weapon the stat was listed on.
Its the same as other unique stats like TP Bonus, or Naegling's Attack Bonus not working with Ranged WS. Unique stats ON a weapon generally only affect that weapon type. Augments, however, follow a separate set of rules and do work across weapon types.

I have a general Gearswap question. If I have a working mid-shot set up in GS, can I just set the pre-shot with the in game macro?
I'm not the best with coding and there's some type of error with my pre-shot set in GS.

Just go test it and see if it works. AFAIK, in-game macros can conflict with GS commands, so you'll need to check for yourself if you can pre(vanilla) and mid(GS). //showswaps and //debugmode to check.
Easy check is to use equipviewer, make your preshot set naked, then go fire a ranged attack. Check icons to see if your midshot equips. Debug Mode will tell you if there's something wrong.

Make 2 idle sets, one normal and the other with your preshot gear. If you reload your GS and toggle to the preshot idle set, you should be able to simulate a normal shot as long as you are outside of melee range. You just need to be aware to manually switch to your normal idle gear when damage is incoming.
Ideally you could find and fix the error, but this could probably work if you wanted a workaround in the meantime.

I was able to get the everything working in Gearswap.
I did test the in game Marco for precast and it does appear to work correctly but I didn't spend too much time on it. Thanks all for the help and advice.

Could a veteran Ranger assist me with making range attack macro?
/equipset snapshot
/ra <wait 1>
/equip midshot
this is my macro but sometime i feel that midshot is not registering, is there better way to do it?

Few options.
1. Idle in full snapshot set
/ra <t>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/equipset idle
2. Put 2-4 snapshot pieces in your idle/default, then add a few more in macros lines
/equip snapshotpiece1
/equip snapshotpiece2
/equip snapshotpiece3
/ra <t>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/equipset idle/default
Could get tricky if you are shooting while meleeing (rare, but Double Shot), but can work around it.
3. You can also just add a wait after your first line in your macro and delay your shooting animation, which allows you to then add your midshot set after without any issue.
/equipset snapshot <wait 1>
/ra <t>
/equipset midshot
This causes a brief delay from the time you fire your macro until you actually start shooting, so it can feel slow at first, but once you get a rhythm are familiar with the cadence, you can speed up your firing to compensate for the wait. I used this vanilla method for years without any issues, even after Hover Shot and during my V20 Arebati clear.

Thank you very much for the informative replay,
I think I will go with Option 3 which feel more comfortable in long fights.
this is an example of my macro after adding wait to snap shot:-
/equipset snapshot <wait 1>
/ra <t>
/equipset midshot <wait 6>
/echo shoot again
/wait 3
/equip idle

can also make the wait be .5 <wait .5> instead of 1 <wait 1>, assuming a good connection to the server

All .5s are completely ignored and just count as the nearest integer (up).
I've made macros with 6 <wait .5> or <wait 1.5> etc. in them, and not a single one saved any time whatsoever.
Buukki's advice is top notch, these are your options.
/equipset snapshot <wait 1>
/ra <t>
/equipset midshot <wait 6>
/echo shoot again
/wait 3
/equip idle
This macro is waiting WAY too long. Your shooting should only take like...1-2 seconds, unless your snapshot "set" is 1 piece of snapshot gear. Also, waiting 9 seconds to equip your idle gear is pointless, especially if you're planning to shoot again any time soon.

I counted the shooting animation and it finishes after or near 6 seconds without flurry1~2, my snapshot set is capped 70.
I made it this way so if did not shoot again, it go back to idle, after ws it goes to idle to, not sure if it best practice or not, if you have much better macro setup or better way, I would like to know it.

Your Snapshot clearly doesn't work.
Equip your whole snapshot gear and shot manually without macro and you will see how fast it should be.

I tried what you suggested it is crazy fast XD, Thank I figured out the issue I got add /ra <t> <wait 1>, it got working.
this worked for me now, confirmed with tp gain.
/equipst snapshot
/ra <t> <wait 1>
/equipset midshot <wait 2>

Again, your waits are WAY too long.
Here's how many general macros work which are fine (except for Rapid shot procs):
/equipset snapshot
/shoot <t> <wait 1>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/equipset melee/idle/whatever I want to be in.
If you're shooting too fast (having rapid shot in the set, overkill is up, etc.) I would recommend that Buukki suggested:
/shoot <t>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/equipset snapshot <wait 1>
/echo fire away
Your macro is sitting in midshot for FIVE SECONDS. That is way too long. It will fire in 1 or <1 second. You are spending (at least) 5x as long as you need to in your shooting set.
Also: if you shoot ~3 seconds after your /echo shoot, you will get an error because your /equip idle was just put on.
Either: you're gonna shoot again -> you shouldn't equip idle
OR
You are done shooting and want to get back into idle -> You should equip idle set WAY quicker. Something like:
/equipset snapshot
/shoot <t> <wait 1>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/equipset idle
[+]
By SimonSes 2025-12-17 10:30:32
/equipst snapshot
/ra <t> <wait 1>
/equipset midshot <wait 2>
I think doing this like this will make you shot in preshot most of the time when you proc Rapid shot. Every time when you use Velocity shot.
For something like Pinaka with 524 delay, just snapshot puts you at 157.2 Delay. Any Rapid shot proc above 28% will result on aiming delay shorter than 1 sec. Velocity shot with empy body will always result in aiming delay below 1sec.

/equipst snapshot
/ra <t> <wait 1>
/equipset midshot <wait 2>
/echo shoot
/wait 3
/equip idle
Put the <Wait 1> from line 2 after the line 1 snapshot equipset. There is no reason to wait one second after shooting before equipping your midshot set. The purpose of the wait is to break up the equipsets, so putting it in your snapshot is cleaner and always ensures you shoot in midshot and not snapshot too fast. Doing it this way allows line 3 to be performed instantly. You can reduce the wait 2 to 1 if the purpose of it is to re-equip your idle set. You could also just have a separate idle macro you manually click after your shot goes off, which gives you greater control over your gameplay vs waiting on the waits to occur to manually swap you into the correct set.
It your preference if you want to add those echos and 5 second wait to re-equip your idle set (IMO that is clunky and in fast paced fights will get in the way of your dps, but you do you).

Thank you all for replying, I'm not a veteran ranger, just want the best way to range attack without losing midshot set. I made sepreat macro for DT/Idle set.
when i tried the below it took 6 seconds to shoot, velocity and hover wear not active.
/equipset snapshot <wait 1>
/shoot <t>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/echo fire away
I tried this below and it worked but as you said it won't work if rapid shot worked, so should I add wait also for snapshot set as shown bold letters below?
/equipst snapshot <wait 1>
/ra <t> <wait 1>
/equipset midshot <wait 1>
/echo fire away

/equipset midshot <wait 1>

I can't see how. You begin the process in your snapshot set. One second later, you shoot (in your snapshot set), then instantly equip your midshot set for the process of completing your shot. There should not be any 6 seconds here, as you get the full benefit of your snapshot at the beginning of your shot.

/equipst snapshot <wait 1>
/ra <t> <wait 1>

You don't need the wait after /ra <t>. Again, the purpose of waits is to delay your equipsets. In Vanilla, you cannot equip two equipsets back to back without at least a one second delay. In FFXI, Macros fire all lines simulataneously, so having 2 equipsets in an entire macro (in any line) without a wait will cause the second one to fail to equip.
Do this
/equipst snapshot <wait 1> --you begin your shooting in snapshot 70, no way your shot wont be instant
/ra <t> --shooting animation begins
/equipset midshot --midshot is equipped before your firing ends
Also, just so I am sure as to your setup and how you could possibly be encountering any issues, are you using 100% vanilla, or are you using gearswap with vanilla?

Good call bro ^.^ now it is working after unloading gearswap.
I thought so.
Just curious why you are mixing gearswap with vanilla macros in this way. Gearswap can define preshot and midshot sets perfectly so that it does this automatically for you. In such a case, your macro only needs to be /ra <t> and nothing more. It handles preshot, midshot, aftershot (idle), and even Double Shot scenarios. The set of instructions I listed earlier assumed you were a vanilla only user, because you wouldn't normally mix equipsets with gearswap together unless it was for a specific purpose (like forcing a certain set to always* equip when you do an action regardless of gs configuration).
Just for your information, gearswap conflicts with equipsets in many cases, so they can't be used universally together. Either use one or the other, unless you're familiar enough with the game to know how to build sets around it.

I turned it on by mistake , I'm using vanila macros but did not face an issue like this before, but thank you for noticing it ^.^.
