What you said:
are people really turning down a Caladbolg DRK for most content if they need to fill a strong DD slo
What he said
given how popular SAM and DRK are today.
What I said
DRK doesn't get invited to anything specifically
Being a great "slashing DD" does not mean the job is popular. Popular means its sought after. GEO BRD COR PLD SAM WAR etc. DRK's a great job, but it's not really called upon for any content specifically. Not that it matters, since all DDs are interchangeable and you can use all of them for any event, but my point was DRK is not "popular today" any more than it ever was. It's actually "less" popular in meta events, not because of the job itself, but because of the meta and comps and other jobs that compete for the same slot.

I think it's a given that Tahrongi NMs are the worst but I've really come to hate Orthrus/Alfard/Apadamak over time. You have to farm so many items, the resentment really builds up over time.
There were far worse magian trials to complete, so trying to declare which one was 'worse' is mostly subjective. They are all still better than waiting for a certain vana'diel day or camping a weather forecast lol

This is strange, guess they needed to juice their numbers a bit but decided to fall short of a bonanza giveaway.

Fujito definitely strikes me as the kinda person to start toying with unannounced FOMO campaigns to juice DAU (daily active user) numbers Whole change to login points gives that too, from my understanding more concurrent logins you have more points you get daily.

No heads up, just campaigns today go!
All limbus adjacent. Skill up for crafting. Trust buffs for solos. NNI for craft mats and gear (assuming the stuff is in NNI now)
They have done one day campaigns. One single day with "everything" turned on, once or twice.

Situations like these always makes me think there is more to it then there is. Maybe the Nyzul ??? items have a higher rate of rarity ;)

Thanks for vana-time, cause there is a 0% chance that the two people who can update the bgwiki main page would ever get to a spur of the moment event like this before it ended. It's fantastic to have a resource that keeps players informed without having to F5 the Playonline page every day.

NNI for craft mats and gear (assuming the stuff is in NNI now)
Is that pure speculation, or did they say anything that gave that impression?
For me this is an unexpected small victory. Closing in on completing a couple 75 Mythics and I just have some Tokens and all the ZNMs left to do. Was already planning to do some Nyzul this weekend, so sure, I'll take my chances with the lower NNI token yield in hopes of also getting some ZNM pops out of it!
Situations like these always makes me think there is more to it then there is. Maybe the Nyzul ??? items have a higher rate of rarity ;)
That's the kind of wishful thinking that leads one to disappointment ;)

If they're going to allow us to level up trusts and they're going to introduce mounts with special effects... well, I propose they let us level up mounts to gain special effects.
Would be nice to have a mount glow to match an afterglowed weapon, for instance.

All of these monster/mount optimizations and cool features of Monstrosity....Look, let's just call it what it is: This is Beastmaster Erasure. :(

I have a number of posts on this forum suggesting that they should've done a better job of tying all the monster-related activities to one another. BST, Pankration, monster rearing, Monstrosity, mounts. They could've done some cool things, but the disjointed nature of development over time meant they missed all those opportunities.
Soul plates could've been equippable on your monstrosity species. Monstrosity species level could've changed output from collecting items from that species in mog garden. Reared monsters could've been able to fight in the coliseum.
Progress in any of these areas could give BST low-level, always-on Cheer-like effects - whether only on the beastmaster or as pet species or family-dependent buffs. And you could make a similar argument wrt BLU.
I'm also disappointed they didn't find more things to do with the maze tabula/rune and evolith systems. Lots of ways to augment various things that they just aren't using. Maybe the pending changes to trusts will see something like tabula/runes - same runes for all buffs, different tabula based on trust role? /shrug

All this mastery rank grinding might make them take another look at monstrosity at least!

Real talk... Why DIDN'T they tie your Monster Rearing pet to BEASTMASTER???? Bro... You can raise your own pets then they join you in battle. That's the most BST thing imaginable. Use your raised pets in Coliseum to PvP or in battle. Customize them so they can fit certain roles and completely abolish the Jug system (because they added the memento system which is a KI).
So I can raise a dragon or a behemoth that sits on my beach and complains when I don't pet it, but I can't use his *** in battle after weeks of feeding and raising it?? Good grief, What an absolute fail...

I hate BST! Time to delete it
Although I had an idea to turn monstrosity into a Morpher job. That let's you transform into your monster you leveled up and upgraded. That would be more fun than BST

I definitely hope they take another look at Monstrosity. They need to finish the species list at the very least.
It'd really spice things up if they let us use Monstrosity in certain content. I'd be MUCH more enthused about making another mythic if I could be a lynx traipsing through Nyzul or a manticore rampaging through Ein. Same deal for relics/dyn and emps/abys.
...and if I could have my amphiptere stalking through Sortie for a prime I would be So. Happy.
By Draylo 2026-01-11 19:49:39
Yes imagine being able to roll up as a sandworm to Odyssey or something. I think that would be cool and fun and open the doors to a lot of different playstyles. The Morpher job could equip different things before transforming to be able to give abilities, stats or unique effects. Now they have to add Time Mage, Chemist and Morpher
By Felgarr 2026-01-12 12:32:23
While I have the microphone, why didn't we get Monstrosity parties?
I know people who hate playing healer, but you tell those same people they could play as a rabbit while doing it? They'd be all over that ***.
And another thing, why can't we take these monstrosity parties...into Odyssey? What's more Odyssean than fighting monsters as a party of ...monsters!
By Nariont 2026-01-12 12:44:31
because it was a side bit of content that was basically a passion project by i think 1 or 2 guys(think they later went on to do the mog gardens stuff?) and didnt really take off with the player base at the time so not much incentive to push it beyond what it was probably. People grinding for mastery ranks is probably the most activity it's had for some time

I have a real-life analogy for how FFXI has been pieced together over the years that actually mimics my personal experience.
FFXI is like an apartment you move into when you're younger and begin decorating. It starts off with all of the rooms being relatively simple but having a very apparent theme and furniture in each room that makes sense.
Over time, you moved into a Townhome and brought your apartment furniture over into your new space, and then filled the rest of the space with other random stuff you bought here and there at various stores. Some match, some don't, but whatever, you're filling out the home. You repeat this for a period of time.
After 20 years, you have moved into a larger home but now have so much mismatched furniture and styles from different eras/stores that there is no longer any consistency and theme to any of your rooms, and you have a bunch of dated old furniture in storage you have absolutely no idea what to do with so it just sits there collecting dust.
One day, you open your storage closet and wonder why you never made some of these old pieces work and had a better vision for decorating instead of just arbitrarily throwing pieces of furniture together. You discover old stuff you completely forgot existed and wish you had put more thought into your plans for modeling, because it could have been so much more beautiful as a whole. The house still is functional and works fine, but it would have been so much more inviting if the forethought was there and took into account everything that existed prior.
This is how I feel FFXI has been managed over the years: still playable, functional, fun, but so many dated/mismatched pieces of content that were abandoned or don't make sense with how they never completed the vision and aren't purposeful. Just went a totally different direction and now you're stuck with a storage closet of relics you don't bother exploring anymore because you've moved on. Kind of sad. (They ARE starting to revamp older content: Besieged, Limbus, we will see what's next)

From what I remember, Monstrosity was one dev's grand idea and they were the only ones working on it.
They moved on, and it stayed unfinished. Probably no one else understands the spaghetti code at this point.
By JuniperPhoenix 2026-01-12 17:34:15
It would be cool if in the mog garden / monster rearing area
There was a connected zone where only BST could enter
Were you could strengthen pets
Like there doing with trusts
Keep a charmed pet > Give a new Job ability to summon it
Also a new job trait that let's BST use pets as mounts
What else?
Monstrosity? Maybe BST goes here to do something pet related

Buy at your own risk. The codes have a soft expiration date. I've had and heard some work, and some don't work, even though they were new sealed products.
Bought some, the codes worked.
I struggled to remember where the hell the code was, but it was inside the paper that wraps around the thing.
Thanks to this

Sadly... you CANT use a second code to get the rainbow mog pell on the same character you used, I must have forgotten that. The only ones sendable seems to be the goblin club and the crab club, and the two moogle hats. Lame!

For the hardcore folks, I recommend they buy 2. Each item comes with 1 rainbow mog pell and 1 gold mog pell. You use one rainbow mog pell on a $1 mule so that you can dbox a nomad or moogle cap to your main. The second rainbow mog pell goes to your main for a nomad/town moogle shield, which doubles food duration (or gives you a costume). The percentages on BGwiki are wrong, I want to say it's ~95% double-food duration and 5% costume effect. (I've been using it before Sortie for a few years now). The gold mog pells, don't have amazing value, use them on whatever you like (maybe Guild Points?).
SE, if you're reading this, give us more access to rainbow mog pells! Maybe even make upgraded versions of these items!

FWIW for future NNI campaigns - I did 10 or so runs this past weekend in the short duration campaign. Went out of my way to kill any NMs I saw for ??? Box +1 and random ??? items, and of course targeting as many bosses as possible for Box +2s. I didn't see a single Limbus mat, so if they are indeed newly added to the pool it doesn't seem like it's at some especially high rate, and I didn't really notice any differences from the usual NNI campaign.
Sometimes I don't mind doing NNI (during its special campaign times) as a bit of a change of pace while working on tokens for Mythics, in hopes of also scoring some ZNM pops. Generally not especially "worth it" for me versus just farming normal Nyzul for tokens and making the ZNM items myself though. This campaign would have ended up a really poor use of my time if not for one of my final runs being quite lucky and rewarding me with both a Tyger and a Sarameya pop from Box +2s (to go with the smattering of other tier 2/3 ZNM items I got and several cloth/linen pouches).
