Hmm if I were the devs I would make a big announcement that starstones/sapphires are npc'able, then after most of the community has disposed of their existing excess stock of these items after a few months, I'd make them tradable for gallimaufry and remove the EX tag. That would be interesting

Trade 5 or even 10 of them to upgrade a +1>+2 or +2>+3 Empy as an alternate route to Galli one. Trade a specific number of them and an earring to reroll its augments. Trade one of them and 10 earrings of any type but same quality to pick an earring of your choice of the same quality. Trade one of them and 10 earrings of the same type to upgrade that earring to a higher level of quality (NQ>+1 and +1>+2). Just throwing out very simple ideas that could need some balancing in its variables/numbers, but would still offer solid control to players, but moderate enough that it doesn't entirely kill the grind, it actually offers a much better carrot on a stick. But noooo, they had to make them sellable for what surely is gonna be absymal numbers. And despite that, any number is bad really. We don't need any more Gil generating things in this game that already suffers from inflation so bad mostly because of that. They seemed to have understood that simple concept when they made Sparks conversion weekly, but think again. I dunno, it's all moot talk given what happened, but it seems to me this would've been a perfectly achievable goal even with their skeleton crew, so the fact that they didn't even bother is terribly irksome to me. I'm not a fan of beseiged particularly, but at least they are putting some effort into it and not just changing stats to match ilvl 119. Who knows, could turn out to be fun. A little UI help could go a long way in getting players to protect the generals and defeat certain NMs.

I was under the impression they were just battle leaders, but at this point in the game's life, they don't serve any practical purpose. I could be wrong. I know they can be captured, but what does that actually result in penalty-wise, besides them not being available the next Besieged? Genuinely curious They should tie bonuses/penalties to the Generals and their survival. If it's just a health bar indicator with no benefit if they live or die, people will still just steamroll the monsters to finish the event. Make it to where the generals all enhance something unique. They all have specific jobs, and their trusts already exist, so we have an idea of how their AI behaves. Maybe Gadalar enhances MAB the more health he has. Or they grant their unique WS or a buff to players who are within a certain radius of them, to encourage fighting side-by-side with the generals (instead of everyone just storming the entrance). Just a few examples. If they die(captured), you lose the candy and can no longer use the portal to staging points.
Hinders salvage, nyzul, meripo etc. You can still walk to the cave and enter so it's really just an annoyance. loses the sanction bonuses too, which dont really matter post 2010. But they should update sanction to give the same exp bonus to exemplar points. So there's a thing to care about. Offline

Yeah according to wiki the enemy focuses on the Hall of Binding to take the candy once the generals are down.

So losing all generals makes them go after the candy, or if any general dies they take the candy automatically? I feel like I've seen one or two of them die but we still won the Besieged.
All 5 die, then the seal breaks, then if a mob crosses the seal, they steal it
Any individual general means nothing, as long as one is alive the seal stays. Candy bonuses are yes/no, there's no rewards tied to specific generals. Offline
