Nothing, but the difference with making them put their birthdate is any grievances as a result of browsing the site is the kid's fault and not the site's owner. Basically, for lying about their age when being prompted to enter due to adult content, they haven't got a leg to stand on if they try to take something to court, or if Scragg or Alyria flash the banhammer around.
Not that they would in the latter circumstance, but you get my point.

Not to mention that anyone could use this when browsing FFXIah from a public computer/place. Would filter non-suitable content. Since I suppose that without being logged in, the guest will be automatically considered as being <18.
