Instead, they ended up amping up the volume of a rabid and violent communist organization that beats people up who have the wrong opinions.

1st Amendment protections, which is referred off hand as "free speech", means neither the government nor any of it's entities will make any law or system that prevents people from expressing their opinions or beliefs nor will that same government prevent you from practicing your religion or favor one religion over another. Protesting in a public place falls under this because that public place is owned by the government.

Everyone has a right to freely express their opinions in public places, regardless of how unacceptable or down right evil those opinions are. Freedom of speech is one of those absolute universal freedoms, either everyone has it or nobody has it. AntiFa, BLM and Feminism are all hate movements precisely because they advocate using violence to suppress dissenting views. They are no different the the KKK, NewNatzi's, or various Islamic groups.

Anita Sarkeesian for starters but pretty much every university now. What used to be the province of "Radical Feminist" has migrated to include all feminism since it seems only the loudest victim wins. Nearly every feminist author, go back and read what they said in university and it's something along the lines of "all men should be castrated / world would be better without men / ect..". But they get a pass for spreading hate and violence because they are spreading it in the name of your religion.

Umm ... those were the previous leaders of the "moderate" feminist movement and their books and speeches are required course work for mandatory class's in modern universities.
All feminism is now radical feminism, no dissent is allowed because to be any less of a feminist is to support rapists.
