Trumps Russian backed Aliens were using their mind control powers on him to make him say those things. What he meant to say was that Trump was ordering him to terminate the case and he valiantly refused, or something similar. But because Trump is a Russian puppet we will never know what really happened, our only reasonable action is to IMMEDIATELY IMPEACH TRUMP, it's the only way to be sure.

Wall Street Journal, which hasn't been as critical as other news outlets on Trump, also basically gave the same analysis.
Only the crackpots at WP/NYT/CNN are sticking to the narrative that Trump obstructed justice, but more and more news outlets are finally dropping the overall narrative.
What's left for liberals/democrats now when their only support left is starting to go away from their narrative?
