wouldnt it be, isntead of affecting light... the electromagnet/magnet is affecting the oil/water/liquid/material to react or vibrate just slightly that it affects the light refraction? I mean, you get the same effect on a hot day, on on a hot surface, the shadow is casted and is moved. same effect can be said for mirages in a dessert, and def. not affected (directly) by magnetism.
