Matthew Bryant was able to access data on all .kp domain names, then shared it on a computer code site, reports CNBC. There wasn't as long a list of websites as one might think. It turns out North Korea has just 28 domain names, including sites for state-owned Air Koryo and Kim Il Sung University and what looks to be a social networking site called Friend, reports Motherboard. To put that in perspective, there are an estimated 1 billion websites worldwide and more than 140 million .com and .net domains.

"We knew about most of these, but weren't sure what else existed," a North Korean researcher tells the BBC. "When North Korea brings up a new website they never publicize it. Either someone finds it by accident or it might show up in a search engine." The sites—there's also one hosting recipes, another about film, and a possible copy of Yahoo—are very basic and slow to load.
