I see where you're going with this, but thinking about how the federal government is full of party hacks and imbeciles and then trying to imagine a group of people that's even worse is giving me brain damage.
Which was sort of my point in the first place.
The federal government is a step up from these fruitcakes. Ah, when the wonderful times when the choice is between partial *** and total ***.

However what he's done is incredibly important and it's something that could last past these primaries.
You're probably right.
But I'm also in full-cynicism mode today and it doesn't feel particularly relevant.
And I'm also not even that happy with Bernie today given the margin by which John Fetterman lost to the establishment Dems and despite being a perfect example of the kind of politician Bernie should be working with, he never even briefly stopped to help John at the senate level. Maybe that didn't matter either though and he was never going to win.
All I know is that for my state's shortcomings, don't blame me. I'm not jumping ship and I'm doing my part. Just not enough other people seem to want to.

I'm sorry but I don't know who that person is so I can't say anything about it.
Also this is now Trump&Nostalgia thread.

Also this is now Trump&Nostalgia thread.
Given that Trump's whole message involves invoking nostalgia - "hey, remember when things weren't so *** up?" - I'm fine with the digression.

He's a mayor in Pennsylvania that was up for the US Senate.
Sorry, I thought it was closely-related enough to Trump as it also involved current elections.
I'll *** off with that to P&R.

what Bernie wants is irrelevant, as he's not getting anywhere close to the nomination It's true he's not going to win(to be fair he did much better than anyone even expected). However what he's done is incredibly important and it's something that could last past these primaries.
Too often people(and especially young ones)don't get involved in politics out of a sense of resignment; in this era what people need(and not just americans mind you)is politicians who can inspire, and by that I mean inspire good sentiments, not anger and fear like Trump(which is nothing new, nationalist parties have been doing this for centuries).
You need to hope that Sanders' message will last and that people will take it upon themselves to keep asking for the changes they want, rather than just call it a day and go home and let the same game play out.
Activism is important. The moment you become passive you have no one to blame but yourself.
At the risk of defending Trump, it helps to not look at this from such a one-sided perspective (liberal activism good! conservative activism bad!). Both sides have growing frustrations with the status quo, and both sides have a cult of personality persona to imprint on. Even if both groups scare me a little bit, Sanders supporters and Trump supporters get some respect from me simply because they're saying that what we have now isn't good enough. The difference is that the Republicans have actually achieved the force of majority to make it happen while the Democrats have handcuffed themselves to the establishment's bed. How's that for progressive.

that's what both trump and hillary are selling, a return to a time before things got so messed up...
for trump it's the pre-nafta reagan era and for hillary it's the blue dress era...
I think she misses monica....

But I've never seen him actively try to pit people against each other...? You don't pay attention then. This is one of your biggest reoccurring problems when you post:
You're given the opportunity to share specific examples but you just dismiss people with some variation of "you're not paying attention" or "you don't read". Yeah, I'm the only one that does that.<br />
Not to drag this out, but you could have accepted this criticism as a means to improve your posts and help alter the tone of these threads for the better.

(liberal activism good! conservative activism bad!) If you're rallying people for violence there is nothing good about it. It goes both ways.
Trump is instigating with his words xenophobia and mysoginy. That's not the kind of inspiration the world needs.

That's sort of the thing. It's false equivalence. It's like when people say you have to "respect their beliefs about persecuting others."
No, you don't. Believing in slavery isn't a valid thing because it harms other people. You do not have to respect someone's beliefs if those beliefs involve you carrying out physical or psychological harm to other human beings.

Aaaaaaand we've gone to left field, way off of the point I was trying to make.

It is. But it's also truth.
There are people -- in fact, some people very dear to me IRL -- that seem to think an idea is equal just by existing. That there's a "right" to mistreat people (in this case, transfolk and homosexuals) because they believe its right and in their own best interest.
That's not acceptable.

Even if both groups scare me a little bit, Sanders supporters and Trump supporters get some respect from me simply because they're saying that what we have now isn't good enough. I think it's worth noting that even if Trump or Sanders lose, they both will likely remain very vocal. Sanders is still a very active senator, and Trump won't shy away from the public eye til he's dead. The dialogues both have started won't fizz out after November.

Mistreating anyone is unacceptable. Hatred is unacceptable. Like the idiot humans we are, however, we laser in on the offenses that affect "our people" and disregard the rest. Instead of promoting dialogue of peace, we make sure it only applies within our own community of similar-minded people. Everyone else deserves vitriol and disdain.

Ehhh...Still holding out for the silly thought of both running as Independents as a segue to more political parties, but that's slim to none.

So, we're joking about it, but...
Zah's right; neither of them is particularly beholden to their party's power brokers or platform. We can't say anything is out of bounds with this election. What would even happen?
Do Trump's supporters flee because of the dreaded socialism?
Do Bernie's supporters flock to Trump (as they've talked about doing anyway!) ensuring a landslide victory?

that didn't take long Hostile, not violent. It means I don't shake hands with them and sit to talk, but treat them coldly and move away.

Well, consider that I'm a person whose greatest form of aggression irl would be a weak push and growling at the person. And that's a very extreme reaction from me.

Hillary and Trump are stuck out on a small boat in a lake near Atlanta. Who wins?

Don't forget there's a conspiracy according to which Bill Clinton asked Trump to run for president. This is all a complicated plot weaved from him!

In my imagination you're "ScumFist", a 40 year old Hell's Angel biker from the slums of new jersey with a penchant for chain whipping people while high on a mixture of reds and wine...and you only come here to search for young men to be your...uh..."underlings" and your real name is Phil, you smell like axle grease and hamburgers and you read Alexander the great themed manly love style paperbacks. And you work in the same office as me.

Quote: US TV network NBC is cutting ties with Donald Trump over "recent derogatory statements" that the veteran businessman made about immigrants.
NBC said the company would now not be airing the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants that are co-owned by Mr Trump.
Responding to the announcement, Mr Trump said he would consider suing NBC.
Earlier this month, he accused Mexicans of adding drugs and crime to the US as he announced he was seeking the Republican presidential nomination.
"They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some I assume are good people, but I speak to border guards, and they tell us what we are getting," he said in his speech on 16 June.
He also pledged to build a "great wall" on the US border with Mexico and insisted it would be paid for by Mexicans.
He later insisted he was criticising US lawmakers, not Mexican people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-33321290
I'm honestly surprised with some of the shit he says. Even though I probably shouldn't be.
