Well yeah, that's pretty much it from what I've seen/heard. Media talking points from these types of events rarely focus on the content, though. It's all a matter of what can get the most viewers/page hits.

Sheriff David Clark? Rudy Giuliani? Nobody seems to have a clue what they talked about, even though they gave some powerful speeches. It's all about NeverTrump and Melania.

Just watch the video comparison if you don't have time to read the speeches. Rick Astley needs writing royalties for a portion as well.

I'm trying and failing to see the outrage here. Consider it from the various sides:

If you're pro-Trump, and right of center: You might not be excited about them cribbing too much from Michelle Obama, and it'd be nice if they just threw a speechwriter under the bus and let everyone move on instead of letting this fester and dominate the news cycle, but whatever, man

If you're anti-Trump, but still right of center: This is kind of embarrassing, but it's the sort of Keystone Cops *** you've come to expect from The Donald at this point, isn't it?

If you're anti-Trump, and left of center: Why are you wasting mental energy on this? Melania isn't running for anything, and she didn't write it herself. Shouldn't you be more concerned with, say, the actual positions that are being wheeled out all week? You've got bigger fish to fry.

If you're pro-Trump, and left of center: You are a unicorn. You have better things to worry about than a dumb speech, like keeping your coat glossy.

There's no real outrage, even the pundits of the left positioned themselves to the stance that a speech writer should be fired. What's making it a story is the Trump campaign doubling down on Melania wrote it and that the similarities in the structure and words nearly verbatim. Nobody is really outraged so much as they're making the Trumps the butt of jokes today due to the direction they've taken.

How does his third trophy wife humanize him?

Personally, I think his kids do a far better job of that.

To be fair, I think his children are a mediocre indicator of him as a person. Most trust fund babies are dead of heroin overdoses at 22 or killing prostitutes for fun. The fact that his kids are filthy rich and not total douche canoes should mean something.

I'm assuming they're not for argument's sake, they may be for all I know.

I read all the speeches. And the fact checks on them. There are many more points to attack the other speechifiers on than Melania's plagiarism.

Trump's kids don't register anything to me. They act and feel like standard rich heirs, out to do whatever rich heirs do and this whole campaign is one extended exercise in supporting your dad in his crazy loony dream you wish he'd just drop already.

They live in their world, we live in ours. The problem being that daddy has escaped into our world.

Yeah I guess if I could afford a tutor, nanny, and housekeeper, I could be a *** stick and the kids wouldn't notice. annnnnnndddddd I guess narcissism could lead one to hire those people in lieu of empathy / decency.
