Just dinged samurai to level 99 yesterday-- and the first thing I notice is I can skillchain myself back to back to back to back pretty much non-stop even using a crappy great katana like Tachi of trials.

I remember a while back seeing this screenshot:

Now, instead of simply spamming Tachi: Fudo over and over for light skillchains, I'm thinking it might be better to mix things up a bit and get a skillchain with every WS and not every other WS.

Quick question: In what order shall we do our weapon skills?

I realize the screenshot above only shows the last three weapon skills used finishing with Tachi: Fudo. What other weapon skills might come before that?

A ton of ways to do this really, for example:

Rana > Shoha > Fudo > Kasha > Shoha > Fudo = Double Light

Yuki > Gekko > Kasha > Fudo = Double Light

Rana > Shoha > Fudo > Kasha > Rana > Fudo = Darkness

Lv2 skillchains can rotate this generating an infinite loop. Thats:

Fusion + gravitation = gravitation
Gravitation + fragmentation = fragmentation
Fragmentation + distortion = distortion
Distortion + fusion = fusion

SAM has access to all lv2 skillchain so:

Kasha + rana = gravitation
+ shoha = fragmentation
+ fudo = distortion
+ kasha = fusion
+ rana = gravitation
+...

to break the cycle, wait for fragmentation (shoha) or fusion (kasha) and use the other one to generate light, and close with light (fudo).

In short:

Fudo + fudo = light
Kasha + shoha + fudo = light light
Rana + shoha + kasha + fudo = Fragmentation light light
Fudo + kasha + shoha + fudo = fusion light light
Shoha + fudo + kasha + shoha + fudo = distortion fusion light light
Rana + shoha + fudo + kasha + shoha + fudo = fragmentation distortion fusion light light

Or, just for fun:
Rana > Shoha > Fudo > Kasha.
Loop that ad infinitum.
Will (theoretically, we all know that everything needs testing in FFXI!) result in an infinite loop of:
Fragmentation > Distortion > Fusion > Gravitation.

I'm wondering about corsair's light shot. Does it play any part in those 90k+ light skillchains, aside from the defense down value it combos with dia that we all already know about?; sense it is light magic dmg and light shot increases magic dmg of same element for short time? does it work like that? is it helping on both sides of the equation or just with the defense down?

Hello,

As someone learning SAM, how did you go about building the TP so quickly?

Thank you.

Ah, sorry for being a newbi to Internet phrases (Necro Bump Detected), but in my one room school house old Abe and I didn't learn this term. :)

Also let me point out something: This thread - at the time I posted - was the SIXTH from the top. I didn't go hunting for it and as someone new to SAM the title looked interesting.

I'm not trying to do something bad, just learn more about being a SAM.

Oh, and who says he guy wasn't already a BLU?

Thanks and no I'm not looking for a war -- I'm looking to learn and point out going from 6th to 1st isn't a big issue.......

SAM gets an incredible amount of STP and TPPH returns. Fully buffed a SAM will be able to ws every 1.5-2seconds.
That and lots of Job abilities make it incredibly easy for SAM to self SC endlessly.

Hi,

I know STP = Store TP but TPPH? I'd think it means TP something. I tried using Google, FFXIclopedia, and bg-wiki to look it up before asking here . . ., but what is TPPH?

Thank you, /bow

Hey! We partied last night on Apex Crabs (was short-lived because my ISP decided I can't CP ;;).
My guess is that TPPH = TP per hit. Assuming my guess is true, I'm not sure if that term serves any purpose. Your TP per hit is always a function of your weapon delay and the total amount of STP you have on (Job trait, gear, Samurai roll), regardless of the job you're playing. So, unless TPPH means something else, or that Great Katana delay to TP-per-hit relationship is special, don't worry yourself about it.

Tachi: Yukikaze / Tachi: Jinpu -> Tachi: Ageha -> Tachi: Shoha -> Tachi: Kasha -> Tachi: Fudo for double light.

Or

Tachi: Yukikaze / Tachi: Jinpu -> Tachi: Ageha -> Tachi: Fudo for Darkness.

Or

Tachi: Ageha > Tachi: Enpi > Tachi: Enpi > Tachi: Kasha > Tachi: Shoha > Tachi: Fudo for double light.

or

Tachi: Rana > Tachi: Fudo > Tachi: Kasha > Tachi: Shoha > Tachi: Fudo

--------------------------------

Fudo + fudo = light

Kasha + shoha + fudo = light light

Rana + shoha + kasha + fudo = Fragmentation light light

Fudo + kasha + shoha + fudo = fusion light light

Shoha + fudo + kasha + shoha + fudo = distortion fusion light light (With Aeonic can do Shoha as well at end for Radiance.)

Rana + shoha + fudo + kasha + shoha + fudo = fragmentation distortion fusion light light
