After Matsui clears up the questions I'll know what I'm going to do. But I'll certainly be adding to the conversation on the OF. We've changed their minds several times before and this won't be the last.

I don't know about that. It sounds like this is coming from Matsuda.

FFXIV was supposed to make this easier. Everyone knew this was eventually coming at some point and FFXIV was the hope of the future but unfortunately FFXIV only makes this "News" much worst than it coulda/woulda/shoulda been. smh @ SE here.

In regards to "running out of stuff to do", I figure there's still a certain draw to the gameplay, much the same as any classic game that you play repeatedly (which is why people keep returning). Just make a new dude and go through it all again, just as you'd start a new game of another FF or Zelda or whatever.

I don't want to accuse people of being in denial, but to me, the message is pretty clear. As far as new content, this year is the last hurrah. The PC version of the game will still operate, and people will be able to play it as-is (as of November) going forward. That's the message I'm seeing, and I'm not really sure how one can draw any other conclusion.

i enjoy geeking out over different macro configurations for boxing. get a G510 keyboard and make different profiles to control them based on different jobs you play together. just diving into notepad making asjustments. going out playing. seeing results. it's just a really fun process that i can't get enough of. The windower team is also a source of this joy that coincides together. can't get enough of it. love it. not leaving it. btw i send japan 78 american every month for it though^^ sorry I'm not sorry that my time and enjoyment is worth it
because of my love for boxing and how advanced windower is i don't care what numbers of people play the game tbh. hell SE can make it easy mode for APP players to get in and grab trusts and do their thing. i don't care how less of a grind and non-inconvenienced they are. I hope they do go that direction. would be awesome. I'm betting they implement just enough this last year of refinement for the foresight that they've had for the game to be a timeless masterpiece. remember WOW and FFXI are pioneers in this field. FFXI/WOW are timeless masterpieces essentially. nothing has been like them. looking back we will remember their 2-3 decade reign, i suspect. just like how pac-man is seen as a big old archaic thing in a billiard you're smartphone is a network of something modern/new that will never die.

no-one want's to be out of reach from their old favorites. there will always be a remembrance of relationships forged and memories for nostalgic purposes to have access to old games. that does not exclude a decade of active game formation/alteration from sense the first day it came out; ffxi. mmo's have an infamous rap on them for addicts who can't hold a personal life together and dedicate time towards enjoyment. but really all that we are; is the pioneer's of game alteration while you play. It will take a long time to debunk ffxi and wow into their graves from this point.

im in a job where i injured my back last year so i could work less with no downside to my upscale for when i'm ready to make more. so why not put time into something i enjoy. I think a lot of how people's personal lives are going does affect your happiness in game. Everyone goes through different stuff in life so I only hope when you do log in to FFXI you're finding enjoyment. Love you all. ~Jackx see you on phoenix

Doom and Gloom irrationality, people not happy with the state of the game trying to see other people as miserable as they are, etc.

People still find this game worth playing despite all the doom and gloom people post.

Of course, the opposite is also true. People no longer find this game to be worth player despite all the upbeat and awesome things people post.

Not sure why people can't play this on PC, this game is old. You can build a PC for like 150-200 that can handle this game. Buy used crap and if you don't know how to build a PC you can youtube it. Building a PC is a lot like lego/connect-the-dots. You have 14 months to save up $200 to build a PC.

Best part about PC over console gaming is... You can upgrade by parts not full on upgrade console. So instead of dropping 500 on new console you can pop in a little more RAM or get a new processor, buy a GPU for much lower cost at the time. PC parts may outdate every 6 months but the PC can still handle the games on the market for several years.

I realize people want their console games, but seriously skip starbucks a few times a week and in a couple months you have a PC.

One a side note, I am not sure how easy or hard it would be to pass the coding off from windows to ps4, but maybe they just don't feel paying someone to transfer the coding is worth it anymore. Not 12 years later, which personally I feel is stupid. I honestly feel with the way that interview went they want to bring new and returning players to ffxi and killing console completely is not the way to go.

I appreciate support some of you have shown, and the comments of others^^

It's nice to see I'm not alone in my feelings.

As to those saying: They've said this, deal with it.

That's not a very good attitude to take. If i did that for a living, I'd be paying an extra 2k$ on my car.

Decisions should always be challenged when it doesn't benefit the consumer, or feels as if you're being ripped off. Their a company, they cater to us to garner our support and buy their products so they make money.

If we aren't happy with those decisions or outcomes, much like how people throw a fit if a game they buy doesn't work <insert most titles from the last 2 years here>, we need to complain and tell them this isn't going to cut it, and pressure them to change and fix it.

Like wise with FFXI, it has a hardcore fan base, if we don't like the end of primary support and content updates for FFXI, we should and have every right to voice those feelings to SE and push them to change their decision. And we have support of other titles just as old, sometimes older then FFXI with smaller user bases then FFXI has, as examples.

But we shouldn't have to accept decisions just because a guy in a suit said so.

True, the PC has no end date as of yet, and may never, but that doesn't mean we should just sit complacent.

As someone else pointed out, a lot of people go back to old games they've beaten and played to death, I believe that person mentioned Morrowind as example. We could easily add almost any Nintendo title (mario, zelda, metroid) and many other games to the list.

Personally, I still play Morrowind, Total Annihilation, Doom, Duke 3D, a half dozen DOS games, and SNES/Genesis games to name some. All those are great games too.

FFXI is the same way, the only problem is, it's not a thing we can just install and run like those games (or run under a simple emulator). So voicing our support, or outrage at a decision, is our best option.

Anyway, thanks again to those who show support.
I agree with Anjisnu, SE is going to have to evict me to get me out, Send the Ducial Guard, I'll be in Ru'ann Gardens :P
Might be a good challenge lol^^

The remaining hardcore FFXI players should rally a community and choose a single server to play on. You might be able to get some action going that way. As it is everything is still very scattered.

-In an uncertain time not so long ago. . .

-The evil remnants of the design team threatened to disturb the balance of the legendary weapons of long past. . .

-As uncertainty, terror, nerd rage and whining erupted the lands of ffxiah. . .

-3 different banners stood at a difficult crossroads;

1. Elitist stair pirates from the kingdom of jerklandia, flying the banner of the foul fecal aroma sock.

2. The casual cadets hailing from the land of Casul, flying the banner of "YUMADTHO".

3. The disgruntled vets, a band that broke away from the elite. Hailing the flag of Stewey Griffin "I don't like change".

-Casting their elitism, cynicism and casul behaviour aside; three unlikely bands stood together to face their would be conquerors flying the banner of the stout neckbeard.

-The battle was brutal, and many subscriptions were lost in the struggle.

-When all hope was all but lost, the beards charged their sweaty and well tempered beards and struck at the heart of Matsui.

-The rest is a mystery, but from the flames came the 119 trials in which all was saved.

-Or so we thought, while we enjoyed our piecemeal but entertaining content another threat looms over the horizon.

-We face an even greater danger than ever before, the disgruntled sages of "move on with your life" sanctuary have spoken of our end for many moons yet this time it may be the revelation spoketh true.

-We must fly our banners again men, we must once again use the power of our whining again to overcome this revelation!

How many people would actually be down to start fresh characters and level up and go through the missions, in a group, the old fashioned way?

Ironically enough most of us whom still play this game are Japanese so maybe you should learn some Japanese and rip em a new one instead cuz I would imagine the JP are even less thrilled over FFXI ending than anyone else but they're Japanese so what do ya expect. Doesn't surprise me.

On a side note SE never said they will shut it down FFXI.
So I should be happy not to see anymore these people screaming the death of FFXI every years since like the end of 2010...

I will probably still play this game in 30 years, even if for that I have to join, or create myself a private server to welcome people like me, like us.
Or buy back the official server to SE with a crowdfunding and paid a team working on it.

But currently SE will continue to make FFXI alive, so just enjoy the new content incoming, and stop to be negative please.

Thanks :)

SE doesn't want this game to continue. Their focus is FF14 and their motivation is completely dedicated to it. Like another poster said, they have been riddled with issues that we have "demanded" from them that they just can't accomplish on this platform and they're not willing to even try anymore. And it shows in their new expansion "Heavensward". Incrementally moving towards all the same job classes that once were the bloodline of FF11. Their mindset is to move forward, not to stay immobilized.

I wish it weren't true. I invested a large piece of my life dedicated to 11. I stopped playing back during Seekers of Adoulin expansion when they killed 99 relics. All that time/effort from myself and all my LS mates gone to waste imo. And the bare fact is that you can't advance in the game by yourself; you need numbers in endgame content. And the servers just don't have them. I'd rather preserve my great memories of 11; The lessons learned, the friends made, and the one of a kind storyline with all it's immense details of legend, mythology, and astrology. I'm afraid to come back just to be further disappointed.

I remember telling myself, "Wow, what am I getting myself into.." as I waited in line along with others to first purchase this game at release. It was an amazing ride that I wish and hope to this day would be revived. If I had something to come back to, I would in a second. But everyone I knew are done and gone as well. And I sure as hell aren't going to get into FF14 knowing what I know now and having to start from scratch so far behind the rest.

I'd quit tomorrow if you could name one MMO that has a large selection of different classes that are actually fun, and 1/5th the content of FFXI. A game that isn't as shallow as a Best Western Kiddy pool, and actually a somewhat decent community without 99% instanced content. The bigger issue for me is I've been playing Final Fantasy games since the first, and god damn if I don't love all the trademark creatures and jobs the series has brought to me over the years. Then I found FFXI, and got hooked and the damn game never let go. I quickly fell in love with the amazing community, the leveling, the jobs, the content and god damn was the story just amazing. Then before I realized it, playing a final fantasy offline game wasn't enough and I enjoyed playing with others online.

For a lot of people it isn't the necessity to cling onto FFXI, its the lack of anything else that truly gives us the feels. A lot of people were unhappy with abyssea and I was one of them, SoA's launch was pretty awful too. In the past year one of my favorite jobs got way more love than it needed paired with the ability to finally do content without COR/BRD Relic RNG A/O PLD. And with Empy reforges on the horizon and 3 major expansions there is much more to do outside of my other goals I've put off until recently.

There are those with 8-9 REM weapons, all storylines complete and felt like they set out to accomplish and are satisfied with the fun the game brought them and left and that's fine. There are those that just got bored, which I can understand since playing with the same boring job configuration for everything gets...boring.But many new players are getting to experience the game just recently or were casual players that never had the time or dedication to do the most current content.

People with 8/9 rem and accomplish all the storylines must play 5 hours a day on average. Of coz they will accomplish everything and get bored. The game is not meant to be played that much. There's the warning sign before FFXI is launched. "Don't forget friends family etc"

Btw I'm with op, play till they kick me out. NOT gonna move to FF14

Game is not over unless you play on a relic of a console. If you love this game as much as you truly express, you'll sell your console on ebay and buy a cheap pc! Thats what I did anyway.
