Some people still play Morrowind. Some people still play many offline games that have had no evolution for a long time. Why do they do so? Because they aren't alone or because the gameplay/content is "good" enough to feed them for years and years. Take some guy who wants to completely finish FFXI, and the guy is really motivated, he'll still be playing in 5 years. Especially if he's not alone. YouTube Video Placeholder when kirin was hard, this vid was amazing. Also got me hooked on that song for quite a bit lol. Sylph.Katsuras said: » My problem with this is that as much as I like the game and all, unless they drop or greatly reduce the subscription they are going to make you pay a full subscription for nothing. The whole point of a sub is to get all the content they create, and you pay their wages to that end. By paying that sub you're rewarding them for giving you almost nothing in return, they are blatantly ripping you off and you're saying that's ok? That's a little too much of a bad thing to reward in my eyes, sets a bad precedent where they see it's ok to treat us badly. FFXI is an amazing game, one I hope lives on for a long time and it's great that people want to carry on with it. It's disgraceful if they intend to keep charging full sub though, that is blatant bad and really shouldn't be supported. All of this. I love FFXI but I would never pay for something I'm not really gonna be getting the "bang for my buck" for. If SE continues to charge people the same price who still want to play after Novmember, then SE needs to take a hard look at themselves and think for a change. They will end up losing subs that way as well, it's shameful and that wouldn't be good for their business. Me for myself: By now I have cleared 4/6 Delves. So.... of course there is a bunch to do for me and for my personal goals. If you all cleared everything, congrats... nothing else ;)

The sheer volume of content and lore generated from this game is not something that will soon be forgotten, removed, and made unaccessible.
There is SO MUCH for them to build upon and draw upon anew. Whether it matches up to what they built originally is up for debate, but goddamn if I wont resub for the rest of its days and look forward to a proper reskin, core rebuild, and relaunch as a light, mobile, but still ridiculously invested MMO that it should be. I didn't give up, FFXI gave up on me.
Didn't I read in the original post that after March 2016 there will be a 'renewed focus on the PC platform', or something to that extent? Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but that sounds like there could be a possibility for more content but they don't want to commit to it right now in case too many people break off.
I can see that happening, with PC being the only platform on mainstream FFXI (since there will be the mobile versions) it'll be easier to code and program without having to worry about Sony/MSoft barriers. Yes/no? I will continue my epic adventure getting my mythic Nagi then working to finish my Kannagi/ Relic. I have plenty left to do and will continue until the servers stay up or shut down.

I'm not usually one to post of these kinds of things but I felt like I would say my thoughts. It really sucks what is going on with the game. I feel like lately everything is a rip off of World of Warcraft to some extent, this game being one of the exceptions. As far as the game goes I thought there could have been more branches they could have gone with stories. examples
*Mithra Homeland (You hear of it in the story a few times but I don't remember them ever doing anything with it). *The gates under Windurst (were they only for show?) *Tenzen's Clan/homeland (After CoP you hear nothing about them, did they drop off the face of the world?) *Sin Hunters during WotG (what ever became of them?) I'm sure there are many more things they could have done, but to let it end like this would be terrible. My opinion for posting right now is I support this, even if I can not play this game right now. Yes/no? You did read that. But in the same post they also said SE said: We plan for this to be a grand conclusion to the FINAL FANTASY series' first MMORPG--and indeed, the first console MMORPG--in a way that will be recorded in the annals of the genre's history. FINAL FANTASY XI's major version updates will conclude with the implementation of the final chapter of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, but there will continue to be minor version updates that address bugs and contain various balance adjustments. Whether those minor updates will contain some content is to be seen. It could be they just meant by concluding major updates that we won't be getting any expansions, mini-expansions, major content infusions, etc. There's also the quip about adding content once the mobile version is launched, which is still to be seen whether it will operate with FFXI or be a stand alone that simply barrows elements from FFXI. Hopefully we'll get some answers from the next Freshly Picked like they said. Yes/no? I'm just curious to how this mobile thing is going to work, like seriously I've tried playing action roleplaying games on mobile and it's like the most uncomfortable way of playing, so me personally i would never play games on my phone unless it's just something really simple like for example Clash of Clans etc and so on but i do want to see how they are going to pull this mobile thing off. Hello, first time for me doing post on here,ok my thought on this whole shut down for consoles next year is that it's a shame because I have played ffxi on Xbox 360 for about 9 years and like many it's became s huge part of my life, yes it is a game but its a game that's been a truly big adventure and now to see it coming to an end is very sad.i also learned that next year Microsoft is stopping support for the Xbox 360 also, that means if square Enix hadn't of stopped ffxi for 360 players they still would of been blocked anyway from logging in next year.im sure most will agree nobody wants to log out next year for a final time, nobody wants to say goodbye to their friends they made over the years, nobody wants to be left with only memories.what square Enix need to do is release a version on ps4 and/or Xbox one so that current console users can carry on playing and enjoy ffxi and its future content with the rest of the loyal players.if they can make it run on old last generation consoles they can make it run on next ten too, wouldn't even have to upgrade visuals either, just put on playstation store/Xbox marketplace and let us download and carry on with our account.bad move stopping console users and when they do the population will fall a great deal,it's not happening for a year yet so please Square Enix do this and you will have yourself a ffxi with all loyal players and even a chance of new players joining.nobody is happy about this news, you say in past things like"we listened to you in forums so we acted",so Square Enix please listen now to what's been said across all the official and other forums, don't kill ffxi with this move, bring it to life again and keep all your customers happy by giving us a chance to still play via ps4/xbox one.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LEARN TO USE THE SPACE BAR MORE OFTEN

My opinion for posting right now is I support this, even if I can not play this game right now. Just commenting on the OP/thread in general: I think the game will still be solid without updates. Especially since now, there's so many options for gear, at least the community can have time to move toward agreeing on what's best for each slot/situation. Since I've come back last year, it's been a headache trying to figure out what gear I need. I never had that problem back in the day.
This game is as much nostalgia as it is gameplay for me. Seriously, is noone else excited to just enjoy the game without that uncertainty that comes with each update? The game is gigantic... I can probably think of only a handful of players who actually need new content... Personally, I feel like playing this game can feel like drinking from a fire hydrant sometimes. I have to comment on this business about the subscription fee: Nooone said SE is going to keep charging us the same thing. We don't know that! Fenrir.Candlejack said: » If you're smart, you could easily find ways to entertain yourself. How about getting that old school rare/ex drop that you wanted for so long, but never had a decent shot at before, for example? What a ridiculous claim. How about arbitrarily running to every npc in the game and do a /bow to each of them too? That's about as useful. Continuous content is one of the primary reasons people feel a drive to play. That's why so many people come back during major updates. You want new shiny gear to go and do new content where you will likely need that gear. Yes, some people may want to go get old stuff they never could get before but very few people are going to stay subscribed for creatively inventing arbitrary ***to do. Fenrir.Candlejack said: » If you're smart, you could easily find ways to entertain yourself Been here since 360 Beta as well and been pleading for a Next Gen console upgrade for a good while now. Even on Official Forums recently. There is still some remotely slight sliver of hope in SE own words and if the show goes on beyond Nov 2015 and SE does in fact continue with content. I wouldn't hesitate to jump onto the PC bandwagon if it's the only platform in town. Would much rather play on PS4 and it's obviously the only real path for SE to take to increase the player base tenfold so patiently waiting to see the future and what it holds for this game. If it's over it's over and nothing I can do about it but move on.
