I don't see the link between this Grand master and FFXI currently, its not look like the same game at all
Living in Japan I can tell you mobile games are EXTREMLY popular.. Everyone on the train is playing something, and people spend a ***ton on them (puzzle dragons, tsum tsum, monster strike) just to name a few.

I think the uproar is because it comes across as "We're stopping any future development on FFXI in order to make this mobile game". Even if that's not the case, that's the vibe. They are basically saying the game won't be getting any new content after November, Which is a very hard pill to swallow for all of us.

in what way? 3 new addons, a huge announcement about console support, and an idea of what the future of XI's content will look like seem like big announcements to me.

That demonstrates naivety on their part however. While they might be popular in Japan people couldn't give two shits about them in other parts of the world. If anything mobile games are often associated with that evil piece of ***called Freemium.

The mobile game actually catches my attention. The whole reason I want an offline mode is because I don't have a solid internet connection all the time, so any time I get to spend playing, I cherish. Being able to have an offline version would be awesome, so this really does have me kind of excited to try it, just to see what it's like.
You could literally get a walmart dial up connection for almost nothing and play the game perfectly fine. Connection speed is not a huge deal with FF11, I played for a year on a dial up connection when they blocked the ethernet ports at school.

I think from what im getting is you can actually play 11 on mobile phone too... They arent talking about grandmasters through this and they are talking about the different ways the system will work..
