Killer Instinct: The Beastmaster Compendium
By SimonSes 2025-01-15 16:58:23
Something is not right in the sim if it is showing results for Cloudsplitter with MAB+16 (as Augury's only relevant advantage) being close to the alternative that has a WSD+12 STR+18 MND+2 DA+3~5 Macc+40 SC Bonus+6 advantage. It should be obvious from just looking at the stats which of those is far better.
Why you list DA for magical WSs?

The sim does take a simplified view of things. E.g. skillchain damage is not a factor, afaik. Although some gear does have its SC bonus effect listed (notably Nyame does NOT) skillchain damage is not shown in the various outputs.
Even removing all of those (more minor) bonuses like SC damage or Macc for less resists... the main comparison from a raw WS damage perspective is whether MAB+16 is competitive with WSD+12 STR+18.
Just at a glance, I wouldn't trade WSD for MAB at a 1.25 ratio - and that doesn't even get to the 18 additional STR (and slightly more MND) helping as stat mods for Cloudsplitter.
For some perspective, not all that long ago when Reisenjima augmented WSD/MAB gear was #1 for magical WS, there were always discussions about how much MAB was enough to equal 1 WSD. General rule of thumb was always something like 3-4 MAB : 1 WSD (exact ratio depending on totals in your set).
Why you list DA for magical WSs?
Shouldn't have! Disregard that. And it doesn't change the overall point at all.

Sure, Nyame legs are objectively better (at least definitively around the R20 mark.) No argument there; Never was. The question I intended to pose is "Are Augury Cuisses +1 a good enough alternative to be listed as such?" The answer to that depends a lot on the purpose of the suggested sets. If they are meant to be aspirational / BiS with concessions only on very expensive items then I'd wager not and would say that some of the current alternatives should be removed (certainly Leyline Gloves -- They stick out like a sore thumb.) If the recommendations have some leeway like they seem to me, then pieces that are within a few hundred max WS damage of absolute best sound like fair game.
I concede that Cloudsplitter may lose too much in this specific comparison but clarity never hurts.

Yes. They're entry level MAB legs for someone who doesn't have Nyame. They might cost a pretty penny, but that shouldn't matter. Also not included is Sacro Breastplate. But I remember looking at the front page sets a while ago and I could have sworn those two pieces were at one point included. Falkirk usually lists a ton of useful alternatives, but perhaps over time with the prevalence of Nyame gear it's a given most players will pick WSD path, so it might not be mentioned for that reason

I think the real issue is there are just some pieces listed as "alternatives" that are a bit out of date. Even when some of the main sets got updated with current gear, it looks like some of the previously listed alternatives didn't get removed or changed.
Like, just to pick a random example from one of the other WS sets, there's no reason Cheruski Needle (STR+3 DEX+2) shouldn't be removed as an alternative for Decimation and Ruinator. It's literally right next to a STR+5/DEX+5/Acc+10/Atk+10 piece that anyone should be able to easily obtain (Voluspa Tathlum, acquired from Domain Invasion points). Or why would anyone still use a Justiciar's Torque (STR+4/Atk+15) on Mistral, when something like Rep. Platinum Medal (STR+10/Atk+30) is easy to get and free from TVR missions?
I don't think anyone is actually advocating for those being good choices in 2025, even for more entry level sets. More just a matter of having forgotten to remove stuff that might have been a viable alternative in the past but is now easily surpassed by newer options.
(and to be clear, I'm in no way trying to badmouth one of the best FFXI job guides around - just a reality that in a constantly evolving game, the guide isn't always going to be fully caught up, especially in the supplemental alternatives listed for not quite super-commonly used sets)

I feel terrible asking this, especially on the forum but no harm in trying I guess. Is anyone in Bahamut by chance able to help me unlock the Mythic WS, Primal Rend? I'm still fairly "new", haven't gotten into Mythic or missions (I will soon though!). Was curious if someone is able to take me to the 100th floor for the weapon to start the WS quest, I can gladly pay gil for your time! Thank you all, & yes I've tried /yell'ing for days :'( If not no worries, I should get started reading up on the entire Aht Urghan missions anyway!
Apologies again if this isn't the right place to ask this. I'm more new to the forum, & I don't see many BST players around. I'm sure not a lot of them have done up to floor 100, so I thought to ask here since it's full of committed BST players.
Edit: found someone, thank you guys! <3

I'm messing around with BST on Ngai after i land ooze. Charm obviously fails, but some of the time the bind lands for like 2 seconds. Is there any information on if +charm or CHR affects this duration or is it just m.acc to land it?

You wait for him to aura and then everything water related can land immediately.
Open wide etc. Works for landing debuffs like addle on kalunga and slow on mboze.

Tested for about 30 minutes and didn't notice any difference in Min/Max Bind duration.
We can run more tests to see if CHR or Magic Accuracy play any role in the duration, but even on extremely low level monsters the duration is only 2sec-8sec.

I'm going to do more Ngai and Kalunga for a while to help people. I'll probably have a little while to at least eyeball the difference between full empy armor +3 vs relic/AF combo. But knowing that the longest you've got recorded is 8 seconds is incredibly helpful.

Would you want to update the pet: macc set to empy +3 except the gleti's feet and the feral howl set to empy + 3 with the Ankusa Jacket and the null accessories for neck, belt, and back?

Ngai was able to be bound the last time I went out. Kalunga gave 0 *** about my charm or my bind. Either set, macc or charm+, didn't land a single time over 50+ attempts, so floored accuracy.
I assume it's because he's fire and it's trying to land bind it's considered ice. But it could be his lizard brain just don't find me attractive.

I'm really enjoying the dps potential of bst in mage parties (for rend damage) assisting in chaining magic bursts w/ pets and keeping bird debuff -def25%/-MDB25 on non-correlated mobs, and using killer instinct with correlated pet skillchaining with you.
I was able to hit a 62k rend in dyna-d on some random orc w/ r15 Aymur, bird and geo debuff and unaugmented nyame + orpheus sash and weatherspoon ring, the skill chain would have been 99999 but the rend did too much damage for it to survive. would work well with a SMN using shiva for MAB buff and bloodpact MB, and works perfectly with puppet tank configured to skillchain off party members.

Primal Rend damage is typically much lower. I dont have the numbers handy, but from memory, I can usually expect about 20-30k Primal Rend from 3k TP, without geo acumen/malaise? It comes in handy as a strong magic WS option and to put up aftermath when using Aymur though.
gotta respond because this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.
Its hard to do good testing in weaponskill damage between Magical and physical weaponskills. Primarily because its easy to get physical buffs from trusts, and hard to get magical buffs.
I don't have trouble getting 30k primal rend at 3k tp without any magical buffs.
I rarely see people get full buffs to magical ws for bst: geo-malaise, wizards roll, killer instinct, and maybe even an mdb down from zhivago or bredo.
you can hit 99k primal rends on alot of stuff.
And of course, if you have enough def down, you can hit 99k Blitz also.

Also, what's a good Pet / Master Hybrid set you guys use? I genuinely love this class. It seems there are various ways to play, so I really am just eager for how people play certain things/what they prefer to use.
For BST i would just forgo giving the pet anything and focus solely on the master, pet needs no TP to do a ready move, so focusing on the masters TP gain is more bang for your buck imo, assuming im understanding the pet/master hybrid anyway
The time to use a pet hybrid setup is for defensive purposes on bst, not offensive. You want a hybrid pet-dt/acc set so the pet can hit more reliably to help keep hate.
I don't know what current content you would do this way though. Trust Tanks are typically superior.

Genuine question:
Are you guys happy with Familiar being BST's 2 hour?
Is there any situation where using familiar would make a significant difference?

Just another relic of the old charm days, bandaided some with a decent all stat boost, and some haste, aint at all amazing but its not completely worthless like some of bsts other JAs

Familiar can raise stats enough to making ooze and other things stick for people that don't have the gear yet. I'm not saying that makes it a good 2h. If Familiar prevented Run Wild from despawning your pet then I would have no complaints about it.
--
More anecdotal evidence on binding Ngai. I started with empy set + relic head, I landed 2 binds in 10 attempts for 4 and 5 seconds. I switched to full relic + AF head for +charm. Only 1 bind in 30+ attempts and it was a 2 second bind.
Either macc is more important or he's building resistance to bind the more it happens. I'll start with the +charm set the next time i attempt it.

Familiar or Unleash should allow you to use every single ability that species can use for the duration of the effect (I mean, the name "Familiar" means you should be familiar with other skills, amirite???)
example: Rabbits gain Snow Cloud under Familiar, Colibri gain Feather Tickle, Wisecrack. etc

Question not really beastmaster "exclusive"
I started farming Dealan-dhe RP at V25, and i noticed that she heals herself?
I looked on bg-wiki but it doesn't say what triggers it.
Do you guys know?

These would be nice changes :
- Make Familiar absorb the master’s buffs and give them to the pet.
(This one I feel would be too OP with Unleash)
- Make Familiar set the killer monster correlation to favorable against the current target regardless of the the pet’s family you are using.
(This one suits the job and the name of the ability best)

This would be too OP ...in the FUN department! Super buff BST's Raaz pets can replace super buff Monks for the duration of unleash!
Honestly SE should get rid of Beast Affinity and uncap jug pets since we have almost all versions to 119 anyway. Then turn Beast Affinity into an interesting Front-Line DD combo.
Imagine if it becomes a move that both BST and pet execute together! A real Tandem Strike!

Give BST a Diffusion type ability, allowing some pet buff applications to party rather than just BST. Lock the OP pet buffs behind Familiar. It would operate just like BLU, but at least could provide more party support outside of just a handful of pet debuffs. This makes familiar quite valuable again and provides more group utility. Hell even locking the "diffusionesque" ability behind familiar as a whole would be an improvement and then even if some are considered "OP" its still locked behind a 45 minute recast. Increase duration of Familiar to a reasonable time, while active it allows pet buffs to apply to party. Used in conjunction with Unleash its a great pairing and makes sense. You ultimately choose between pet actions or party support by cycling pets.

-Turn jug pets into Ciphers.
-Turn Call Beast/Loyalty into a trust style menu that causes all pets to share a recast for that menu.
-Double the ready and reward distance.
They won't though...

I like this idea very much. Does any other job have such limited access to all of their tools? Some of the jug recipes are based on ingredients no one wants to farm.
