This topic is about game discussion, news, updates, strategies, team building, etc.

Gamertag List:

To add your name to the list please use this link

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN IN. You are allowed to make anonymous edits. Please be respectful and only edit the workbook if you intend to add yourself to the list, otherwise I'll have to set up collaborators to add new members to the list and that is no fun. This is not a universal member name > gamertag list for entire site. Only list your name if you own the game, or plan to, this way members of the site can get together and play together.

After you click the link, the only thing you'll need to do is click "EDIT IN BROWSER", then add your FORUM name, then the gamertag/username for the platform you play the game on. Please do not copy and paste a cell, this will cause borders to look weird and I'll have to open it up to fix it.

ABOUT EVOLVE
From Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Left 4 Dead, comes Evolve, the next generation of multiplayer shooters where four Hunters face off against a single, player-controlled Monster in adrenaline-pumping 4v1 matches. Play as the Monster to use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to kill your human enemies, or choose one of four Hunter classes (Assault, Trapper, Medic and Support) and team up to take down the beast on the planet Shear, where flora and fauna act as an adversary to man and monster alike. Level up to unlock new Hunter or Monster characters as well as upgrades, skins, and perks. Earn your infamy on the leaderboards and become the apex predator.

Hunters

ASSAULT
Their name pretty much sums it up. Anything looking down the wrong end of their guns winds up dead, fast.

PARNELL
The fact that Parnell packs a Combat Shotgun and Rocket Launcher proves how committed he is to obliterating uncooperative wildlife. His Super Soldier ability cranks up the violence by vastly amplifying his damage output. If you need to kill something, you call on Parnell.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/assault/parnell

HYDE
Sadistic. Sociopathic. Deeply disturbed. These are but a few of the compliments Hyde has received from those who've seen his handiwork. What bothers Hyde most about this job isn't the sheer amount of death and destruction the Monster has caused – it's that even with his Minigun, Toxic Grenades, and Flamethrower, it makes him only the second most frightening thing on the planet.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/assault/hyde

MARKOV
We all have dreams. Markov’s just happens to be dying in glorious battle. This explains his desire to go toe-to-toe with giant Monsters. But his deadly arsenal consisting of a Lightning Gun, Arc Mines, and an impenetrable Personal Shield means that dream may never come true – and that’s just fine with his fellow Hunters.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/assault/markov

TRAPPER
These Hunters are the best of the best at tracking the Monster and pinning it down.

ABE
Abe – the former intergalactic bounty hunter. A cowboy at heart, Abe hunts where the money is. His arsenal includes a Custom Shotgun, a pouch full of Stasis Grenades, and his homemade Tracking Darts. Oh and his hat, he never forgets his hat.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/trapper/abe

MAGGIE
A quiet woman with a past shrouded in mystery, Maggie is a loner. For years her only companion was Daisy, her faithful pet Trapjaw. Who needs friends when you have a 400-pound alien dogbeast at your side? When Daisy finds their prey, Maggie relies on her Machine Pistol and Harpoon Traps to bring it down.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/trapper/maggie

GRIFFIN
They make horror movies about the things mounted on Griffin’s wall. This veteran Trapper relies on deployable Sound Spikes to keep tabs on the Monster’s movements. But when it’s time to face off with his prey, he breaks out his Harpoon Gun to pin it down – like shooting a giant, angry fish in a space barrel.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/trapper/griffin

MEDIC
They keep the team alive and kicking. Luckily, their oath to “do no harm” doesn’t apply to Monsters.

CAIRA
One can only imagine the confusion at the weapons lab when Caira put in her order for a Grenade Launcher that shoots both Napalm and Healing rounds. As a qualified combat medic, she thoroughly enjoys both saving lives and setting stuff on fire. Her Adrenaline Field is also the perfect pick-me up for an all-night hunt.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/medic/caira

LAZARUS
What kind of medic purposely lets his comrades die? One with a badass gun and the ability to restore life to the dead. Slipping past predators with a Silenced Sniper Rifle and Personal Cloak, Lazarus brings fallen allies back from death – even if they're now technically zombies.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/medic/lazarus

VAL
Sniper and Medic. Two jobs that normally don’t show up on the same résumé. Then again, Val doesn’t apply for just any type of position. Her Armor-Piercing Sniper Rifle and Hunter-healing Medgun are the perfect qualifications for someone stalking prey the size of a small asteroid.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/medic/val

SUPPORT
These versatile Hunters help teammates hit harder, escape danger, and rain down death on the Monster.

CABOT
If we judge a man by the friends he keeps, then Cabot has some explaining to do. As the wrangler of this motley crew, Cabot helps teammates by using his Dust Tagging to track the Monster and his Rail Gun to put it down. But there's nothing more helpful than his trusty Damage Amp, which makes his squad pack an even bigger punch.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/support/cabot

BUCKET
Normally charged with flying the ship, Bucket uses a modified repair drone chassis when the time comes to support his human comrades on the ground. His Guided Missile Launcher, deployable Sentry Guns, and detachable UAV make him more than a match for anything organic.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/support/bucket

HANK
Hank believes in the simple things, like the value of a hard day’s work or the joy of indiscriminately firing a Laser Cutter at bloodthirsty predators. Which is why he cherishes the quiet moment after calling down an Orbital Barrage on whatever creature is currently pissing him off. The ensuing bombardment of fiery death really puts things into perspective.

http://evolvegame.com/about/hunters/support/hank

BE THE MONSTER
Everyone loves a good boss fight. Here’s your chance to play the other side and massacre four Hunters.

KRAKEN
If the dictionary ever decided it needed a new word to describe the mix between waking nightmare and ungodly horror, it would undoubtedly include an image of Kraken. This tentacled monstrosity unleashes electric death on Hunters who get too close and even those who think they are safely out of range.

http://evolvegame.com/about/monsters/kraken

GOLIATH
Goliath woke up on the wrong side of angry this morning. Little is known about this Monster because scientists studying the beast wind up getting torn in half. Proving just how unfair natural selection can be, Goliath can not only punch through the hull of a starship, it can also breathe fire.

HOW DOES EVOLVE’S DLC WORK?

“There’s nothing that pisses me off more than useless DLC,” says Turtle Rock Studios Creative Director, Phil Robb. “It’s got to mean something – it’s got to add something significant to the game…and that’s what we’re shooting for with our upcoming Hunters and Monsters.” That has been a guiding perspective behind how we are releasing extra content for Evolve. So, let’s take a look at what you get.

In the Game, on day one:
Just so that it’s all in one place, this is what comes with the game on February 10th:

12 Unique Maps – each with a variety of modifiers that can drastically affect each match
12 Hunters (Abe, Bucket, Cabot, Caira, Griffin, Hank, Hyde, Lazarus, Maggie, Markov, Parnell and Val)
3 Monsters (Goliath, Kraken and Wraith)

FREE MAPS, FOREVER
There’s nothing worse than getting left out because you didn’t pony up extra cash for a different bundle. Phil recently vowed on IGN that you will never have to pay for additional maps that get built. “First thing we said was that we can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free. We never want anyone to get booted off a server because they haven’t bought something.”

Turtle Rock’s Chris Ashton adds, “We are committed to this game and creating a lot more down the road. We have people on the team looking forward on what’s coming next for Evolve.”

We have also confirmed that additional Monsters and Hunters are currently in development. “Even if you don’t buy them and your buddy does, that’s cool,” explains Phil. “You won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those.” So, if you choose not to buy the fourth Monster, you still run the risk of having to fight against it in multiplayer. And the same goes for additional Hunters – like the ones coming in the Hunter Season Pass.

HUNTING SEASON PASSES
If you love the idea of more Hunters bringing a lot of additional variety to the hunt, you’ll want to keep an eye on this. The Evolve Hunting Season Pass contains four new Hunter characters (one from each class), as well as three new Monster skins (Magma Goliath, Magma Kraken and Magma Wraith.) and will only cost you $24.99. Considering that if you bought them all separately, all of that content will run you about 30 bones, stash that extra $5 in your pocket as a thank you for joining us on the hunt.

The Monster skins will be available on launch day and the upcoming Hunters will be available as released. (More details on the downloadable Hunter characters will be available as we get closer to their release after the release of Evolve on February 10, 2015. In the meantime, let the inevitable speculation on the new Hunters begin!)

MOAR MONSTERS
You’ve been wondering what that new mystery Rock-Lobster-looking silhouette was all about.

It’s about time you guys also meet Behemoth, the fourth Monster in Evolve that comes with the Monster Expansion pack (and FREE if you pre-order) and will be available after Evolve ships.

We recently chatted with Turtle Rock’s Chris Ashton about what goes into creating a Monster. The short version: It takes a lot of time, iteration and careful balancing. The slightly longer version:

“We start with a theme. Then we go through a brainstorm and think about the gameplay style and some abilities we want to emphasize around that theme. We hope to have more than four abilities and refine them down. So, for example, when we started with Goliath, all we knew is that we wanted a brawler. We didn’t know what it’d look like or what its abilities would be – we just wanted a soldier. An all-around Fighter. That design goes to a concept artist and they start to bring that to life. After we have a monster locked down visually, then we think about how its abilities will look and how they will behave. Then that gets concepted.

Then we start prototyping. A lot of times we’ll prototype stuff on the code side at the same time those concepts will start going into production and start to model the character.

An engineer will start to prototype with placeholders - like subbing in Goliath and odd objects. We’ll code up everything and way before the monster’s actually built, we’re playtesting and start testing all the abilities to find the ones working really well…and so much more.”

GAMEPLAY
Here is 2 hour video of gameplay uploaded a this week of the press release demo.

Current Criticisms
  • Content locked behind DLC, but you won't be locked out of a match because you don't have a certain map or character unlocked. There is no falling behind because you didn't buy something extra, nor are you expected to unless you want to try out a new character or skin. ALL MAPS ARE FREE.

  • The "Monster" is slightly difficult to master, making it seem like it is under powered. However, players who use it well are very dangerous to take down. So a slight learning curve.

  • I'll list others as I think about them.

I added a gamertag list for members who are planning to play this game. I'll quote what I said in the OP.

Quote:
Gamertag List:
For now I can't display the worksheet in this topic, due to Microsoft changing their service from skydrive to onedrive. So for now if you want to add your name to the list please use this link: http://1drv.ms/1BGZ8nr

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN IN. You are allowed to make anonymous edits. Please be respectful and only edit the work book if you intend to add yourself to the list, otherwise I'll have to set up collaborator to add new members to the list and that is no fun. After our site's parser has been updated then the worksheet will update after you refresh the page.

This is not a universal member name > gamertag list for entire site. Only list your name if you own the game, this way members of the site can get together and play together.

After you click the link, the only thing you'll need to do is click "EDIT IN BROWSER", then add your FORUM name, then the gamertag/username for the platform you play the game on.

I'll say this one last time, only list your name if you own the game or are planning to purchase it. Don't feel forced to list yourself if you don't want to, this is a list for people who want to team up and play the game together.

I can't say this enough, don't grief the worksheet please. Although I can easily revert changes to it, I would prefer not to. I set this up so I didn't have to add each member to a table myself each time, as much as I love you all I don't have that kind of time, so this is easier on everyone if we just respect it and use it the way it was meant to.

I always worry about these online only MP shooters, but it is Valve, and if anyone can pull it off, its them. With this game, I worry about the longevity, they are going to have to make playing as the monster really, really fun and by that I mean you are going to have to be able to rip people apart, destroy their weak, pathetic strategies and laugh at them while doing it. Otherwise its not going to last. But I have faith in Valve.

I've watched quite a bit of gameplay, even with some of them who are really good at playing the monster.

If you know how to use it, it is so powerful. Taking out the weak links and just wrecking the group even if you trapped the monster in your bubble.

It can go both ways, you wither trap it to gain an advantage, or you just trapped a beast in a corner and it will do anything it possibly can to break free and live.

Ok nevermind, its not Valve anymore, I guess they are a private studio and this game is being published by Take Two, which is an excellent publisher (probably the best), but not having Valve behind it, I'm even less sure.

The best thing they are doing right now is being completely open about the game. You can go on twitch at any time and someone is streming the game. You can see what the game is going to be about, how it is going to play, or anything you want to know about it. YouTube is filled with game play videos, and its still a month before release.

Unless they are hiding something seriously negative (and I can't imagine how), then this is how you should be advertising your games (unless the game is heavily story driven of course).

As a monster, it's mainly playing Metal Gear or Splinter Cell until you reach stage 3. You can take hunters on stage 2, but not a long time, it would get dangerous. Trapper is the best class for monsters and they're the most targeted. A good team of hunters can trick the Monster into a solo target, use trapper as bait.

Daisy is the most hated enemy for Monsters. She has tracking and can revive players, she takes quite the beating to.

Never lost a game as a, at the least, stage 2 Kraken or Wraith. Goliath is kinda meh though, I found it too slow, and if they find you early on it's game over. Kraken/Wraith, Wraith especially, can come out of early finds relatively easy.

Wraith was pretty strong, alot say it's overpowered, but they mostly have a hard time dealing with it because it wasn't fought often in the Beta and no one really had a good strategy to deal with it.
