Continental Resources Inc. CEO Harold Hamm wrote his ex-wife a check for nearly $1 billion to end their divorce case, but she rejected it pending her appeal of the award amount.
But here is the kicker, his billions come from oil, and the court ordered settlement was based on asset appreciation at the time.
But in the meantime oil, and oil stock value, has plummeted like a Monty Python sheep. If she gets her appeal she could loose money.

The 974mil was the initial court ordered amount in a November divorce court ruling - Some of that money he had to borrow.
And a court judge had already awarded her 25 million dollars, bringing the total to 995 million respectively.
She rejected the amount, and is appealing to a higher court for a higher award amount.

First you spend a few thousands because you can finally buy those little things you've always wanted. Then you spend over 10k, up to 100k, on things that are "holy ***, that's *** cool, I want it", then you spend a few millions on things that are "crazy", and then you spend hundreds of millions on other things.
You actually want them, you just need to condition yourself first.
