so my desktop decided to take a ***and now im installing on a new one. Problem is I try to update and after about 5 minutes the update stops due to not having a connection. Thing here is that all my websites still work and my connection is active. Everything worked fine on the old computer so I'm wondering if there is a setting under internet options that windows 8 has changed compared to windows 7.

thanks for any help

do a ping-t http://www.google.com while running the update to see if you have lost packets on ping during the update crash

fixed connection issues. Had to enable Static NAT in modem settings..... Gonna leave this here in case anyone else runs into this problem.

If you're connected directly to a modem that isn't routing your traffic as well (all in one) then you don't even utilize network address translation features, so the setting would be meaningless, and more to the point non-existent in just a modem.
