Well population wise I live in the middle of nowhere. I just happen to live close places that have things.

Put it this way if I showed you on a map what is near me you would be like people live there ?!

Before I moved it was even more middle of nowhere. Like cows and farm animals. I basically grew up around farmers.

Not as bad as Kansas middle of nowhere but still pretty bad.

I've driven through Kansas and I can attest that there is nothing there. But fields of sunflowers and nothingness.

Until a generation ago my wife's family was the dairy for the town. Not a dairy. The dairy. If you wanted milk, you went through them or you bought a cow yourself.

It must be a slow news day cause we are reminiscing of 1950's era living.

All this 1950 talk is reminding me about Fallout 4 again though.

Which makes me feel like this.

Define "heavily populated".

You can get to Warren, Pennsylvania (competing only with Warren, Ohio for most depressing place in the time zone) in about 40 minutes if it's not snowing. Bradford, Pa is about the same distance, but don't bother trying if it's snowing and you don't have 4WD.

There's almost 10,000 people either place (I'm fairly certain those are drastic drops from when I grew up though, which isn't surprising, both Warren and Bradford are oil towns and oil in that area is pretty beat these days, and both are disgusing, decaying "cities").

St. Marys has like 13,000, about as far away going south.

I"m not sure exactly but probably 30,000 people. Which is plenty enough for bars and restaurants.

Not the best bars in the world but they have the beer I like which is good enough for me.

Yeah, 30k is a good size to have stuff and have a "city" feel without being a gross press of humanity, though I like Erie a lot and it's around 100k. But Erie is such a sprawling city that it's spread around.

Yeah, but this is way more fun that bickering about any of the normal topics for the sixty-ninth time.

If we're going regress, why stop there? let's go back to the 1800's for some good pistol duels.

I'd like to say that we need new blood around here so that at least the same old topics wouldn't be argued by the same old people. However, it seems like any time we get somebody new to comment it's someone who's even more crazy than the rest of us.

In celebration of the anniversary of man walking on the moon, let's all remember the time that Buzz Aldrin punched a smarmy conspiracy theorist in the face, because sometimes that's the only way to deal with crazy ***.

Quote:
Forty-six years ago today, Apollo 11 delivered the first humans to walk on a celestial body besides the Earth. On July 20th, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin each spent over two hours on the surface of the Moon gathering samples. Collecting 47.5 pounds (21.5 kg) of rocks that day made both men instant, worldwide heroes.

But despite the fact that we can literally shine lasers on the pieces of spacecraft we left on the Moon and see the reflections, there are those who doubt humans ever made footprints up there in the regolith.

In honor of the historic first steps on the Moon, let’s all remember what happened when film maker and conspiracy theorist Bart Sibrel confronted Buzz Aldrin, demanding he swear on a Bible that he walked on the Moon.

My guess is that calling a man who literally sat atop a controlled explosion to explore the unfathomable abyss “a coward, and a liar, and a thief” had something to do with this:

At least, in part, because of this.

TL;DR: Once it becomes a profitable venture for private industry we're going to probably see a new wave of imperialism, this time in space.

Prepare your anus and expect the headline:
Hillary Clinton, Empress of the Moon
Championed by Chancellor Gore, who has ridden the mighty moon worm

Calm down there, Vanderbilt heiress. Let's not build factories and railroads all over it first thing. I had hoped we learned something the first time around.
