Should the president of the future disregard Michelle Obama's funeral just because? Hell, no president should disregard a former president or first lady's funeral for something minor like speaking at a festival.... All I'm doing is pointing out more disrespect Obama has towards Republicans in general. Since liberals also love to point out Republicans disrespecting Obama. It's a two-way street. Expect this to continue until next January. Asura.Kingnobody said: » Shiva.Nikolce said: » Asura.Kingnobody said: » Shiva.Viciousss said: » Its not disrespect, its nothing. Hell, no president should disregard a former president or first lady's funeral for something minor like speaking at a festival.... Its not insulting. The tech festival has had this planned for a long time, people bought tickets just to go see Obama speak, it would be a major disappointment if he had to drop out. I'm sure they had a contingency plan in place if something major happened. But a funeral is not something major, send Michelle. If they wanted the President to be there, they wouldn't have scheduled it on a day they knew he would be somewhere else. Asura.Kingnobody said: » Expect this to continue until next January. oh super... HEADLINE FFXIAH <morse code beeping noise> this just in.... OBAMA POOPED.....and it DOESN'T SMELL LIKE ROSES! Obama doesn't attend the funeral: "Wow, such disrespect for the First Lady!"
Obama does attend: "Wow, look at him trying to make this funeral all about him!" Sitting Presidents don't normally attend the funerals of former First Ladies. Get over it. Let me ask you another hypothetical then: If Rosalynn Carter, not Nancy Reagan, died, would you be upset if Obama still attended the tech festival? No, I wouldn't care at all if Obama didn't attend Rosalynn Carter's funeral because of a prior engagement.
-Edit: Also, there are other ways to pay respects, which the President has done. Um, Bush was at Betty's funeral along with the first ladies. Obama -gasp- he didn't go. Michele did. No one cares.
Honestly, I find him speaking at SXSW mildly offensive even without a conflict of schedule. The last thing that celebration of pretension needs is validation from a sitting President.
*** SXSW. I lived next to it for 5 years and never went once, lol.

Asura.Kingnobody said: » Bush got a lot of heat from not attending Betty Ford's funeral, should Obama be held to the same standards? MEANWHILE, For those not following last night's results, the breakdown: Sanders: Massively beating expectations and edging out Hillary in Michigan is a good sign for him and his momentum. Losing the southern states is still big but since they're mostly wrapped up, he's possibly through the worst showings of his campaign as the primaries go into more western states. He's doing significantly better with Independents than Hillary and not as bad with minorities as he had in the south. Hillary: Maintains the south but the upset in Michigan gives Bernie the attention he needs. Her base isn't growing, so each loss has some serious implications for her in the long term, especially in a general election. Part of her advantage is those superdelegates, but like in 2008, they can swing as she loses other "sure things" and her electability is questioned by her supporters. Trump: Doing just fine in spite of reactions to his debates, etc. Still a clear frontrunner with no signs of losing momentum. Cruz: Took Idaho, but not generating any real momentum. The states he can do best in have mostly already voted, but at least he's well ahead of Rubio and Kasich. Rubio: Horrible showing last night. He's really behind and only has Florida as a chance (a winner-take-all state for Repulican primaries), which he's currently projected to lose (ouch). Sentiment seems to be that he's many people's 2nd choice, but that doesn't really help him secure any delegates. Screwed. He'll likely drop if he loses Florida. Kasich: Really far behind, and banking on Ohio to generate some momentum. Trump seems to be edging him out there though. Too late for him to make a dark horse upset. He'll likely drop if he loses Ohio. Only 5 years in jail for killing their kid? Oh Canada.

Even one generation can do a lot of damage, though, so I refuse to rule out more extreme methods. This is about the species.
