Ever since the last update for firefox, and even a little before hand, that browser has been lagging an incredible amount on any computer i use. Whats going on with it? Anyone else having this issue lately?

i am running xp but its not just happening on this comp. But also another comp and a laptop.

The only plug ins i have are just things like java, acrobat, flash, windows media player, vlc. Ive never rly specifically installed any plug ins. And its showing no active extensions. Only one in the list but its disabled.

When i click on a link and it goes to load the page, it often just stays there loading for 10~+ min. Sometimes it will come up if i refresh it or reenter the address. Other times it just continues to load endlessly. - It seems to have gotten better the last few days but it is still there some times.

Disable everything you don't need, only certain sites need full java and it's a security risk, I uninstalled mine.

I'd disable WMP as well, you don't need 2 in there, there's not many things that VLC won't play (I can't think of any really), and I doubt WMP would if it didn't.

Probably could disable acrobat as well, unless you're editing pdfs in your browser.

If you need a 32bit win7 disc I'll find the links later.

Try palemoon for a bit and see if that helps any, it's a Windows optimized build of FireFox.

with my disability, my dad dieing, and my moving out of state next weekend, buying a new comp or OS has not been on my list of things to do. Much less my list of things i could afford. But after the move i should be using a different comp as my main. Not new by today's standards, but still a few years younger then the one Ive been using. Still uses xp tho.

Ill look into palemoon. Curios tho, how is java a security risk?

because the exploits are plentiful and most people ignore the updates that patch them, including myself, hence why I typically uninstall it/disable it.

I never said pay for Windows.

If your "new" PC supports 64bit let me know.

I actually remembered this when u said that.

i ended up getting 4 x1gb memory sticks for the system. I plugged them all in, but its reading at 3.25gb ram?

Jetackuu said: »
then you have a 32bit OS, it will do that.

edit: just saw the other post: 6400 should turn itself back to 5300, but I've never tried it.

edit2: a box like that should be able to handle a 64bit OS.

As to weather or not it can support 64bit, i dont no

Searched it. First artical was someone else asking the same question. Generally they said yes is could support 64bit but to be careful of other programs and devices you have. They may or may not be compatible.

That lead me to Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It scans your system to check its compatibility with win7 32 and 64 bit.

Oddly enough, the compatibility report on both 32 and 64 were the same.

1. not sure where you got that program but 99% of the time it's a bad idea to use such things, unless it was from M$ themselves.

2. your drivers should be fine, unless you have old expansion cards, if the cpu will take a 64bit OS, typically the hardware will have drivers for it, I'm sure there's a few odd instances, the printer should be fine.

As for the software: obviously you'll need a newer gpu driver, and do you even use outlook?

hardware virtualization is a technology needed for virtual machines, if you don't plan on running them, then don't worry with it.

it was from MS.

The only outlook i use is from there website, since hotmail was shut down they converted accounts over to them. As for the outlook that pops up when u click an address you see... never used it'

Ill look into newer gpus but i doubt i can afford on for a while, depending on there cost.

You don't really need a newer gpu (well probably could use one, but meh) just a driver compatible with the OS, that's all I was saying.

not the type of virtualization I'm talking about...

Try "Restart with addons disabled". Should be under the Help menu. Browse a bit with that and see if if you're still having the same issues.

If not, then it's one of your addons that's screwing things up. Disable them one by one until things work right.

If you are still having issues, then you probably have something corrupted in your profile. Go into Troubleshooting Information and Reset Firefox (should be a button on the top right area) to create a clean profile that copies over your bookmarks and history (but not your addons). If that works then you'll need to reinstall any addons you had. If you have addons that include some sort of configuration (such as the list of whitelisted sites in NoScript), be sure to save that config before you do the profile reset, so that you can re-load your prefs after reinstalling the addon.

Experiencing a very similar issue with Chrome. I've come to just call it dead tabs, click a link, input an address, open a new tab, etc, and it's like there's no internet connection, the tab just endlessly does the spinning loading animation, but there's no "waiting on http:..." or anything, it's just dead in the water. Typical work around is to just copy/paste the address into a new tab.

For what it's worth, it's on an XP SP3 machine, and the issue seems well documented for Chrome, though no real fix has been suggested as far as I've seen.

If only that is needed then, i suppose its able to handle x64. Whats the diff from 32 and 64 anyway?

I enjoy my driver hunts, but I've gained a few tricks over the years. I liked the old driverguide.com though, found my software for the dexdrive that way as the floppy disks that were sent to me were bad. (yeah, it connects via rs232 (serial port) and used 3(iirc) 3.5" floppy disks for the software). I found a newer version of the software on driverguide...

It's changed a lot since I used it then, not sure if I'd even go there anymore, I'd have to give it a good run down, it at least looks sketchy as hell.

The main difference between 32bit windows and 64bit for most people is the ability to use more than 3.25GB of ram, which in turn also allows the programs to utilize more ram, the only downside a lot of time is program/driver compatibility as it's a different architecture (also has no 16bit support).
