Well, for one, you don't understand the concepts of "compare" and "contrast." Nor do you seem able to grasp the difference being made in the contrast I indicated, nor why that contrast was being made.
But it's also a general statement. You declare yourself the winner when you're verifiably wrong on a consistent basis. Fun fact: fermented human feces can produce a gas with strong hallucinogenic effects. "High off your own ***" is a phrase that regularly comes to mind with many of the posts around here. Weird that you still want to fight anyway, but nope, I will not even argue your "deflection." I will just happily let you be wrong. Nite fellas. I hope you are on your game tomorrow. Onorgul, when referencing *contrast* with it's opposing equal, it be similarities. On that note, What was originally said by Amandarius, and then subsequently quoted, was contrast to what he actually said, and was divergent of his point. It wasn't rushed or hammered through congress, or the senate, since there is public record of the whole thing going through reconciliation after a period of waiting for the newly *special elected* senators. Edit: and that conveniently left out the part where that was in fact not the law in MA. And after the death of Ted Kennedy the democrats with Gov Patrick changed the law to allow him to immediately appoint a replacement. How do you not remember this or is this the part where liberals try to rewrite history? This soon, really? It demonstrated that you misconstrued a half truth to be the whole story, making you factually incorrect and disingenuous. Intentionally ignoring that Reid removed the bill from the floor in Jan 2010 and reintroduced it in 2013. At which time the house which is a Republican majority added measures to said bill that was passed in 2010 under reconciliation. So in fact the Republicans did have a say on the bill in the end. In other words your argument doesn't hold weight... and you want to talk about amateur hour. Phoenix.Amandarius said: » Odin.Jassik said: » The key word is "contrast". Comparing would imply he was examining similarities, he was defining dissimilarity. 0/9... keep going, I just had a redbull, I can do this all night. i have no doubt you can be wrong all night. It wasn't rushed or hammered through congress, or the senate, since there is public record of the whole thing going through reconciliation after a period of waiting for the newly *special elected* senators. I'm very aware that "compare" can be used colloquially to demonstrate difference. However, when someone explicitly uses the word to mean "these two things are alike," which is what he did in reference to me pointing out how two things are completely unlike, then we have the kind of double-speak that is common as muck in politics and debate: hiding behind obscuring words to avoid the real problem. And you are clearly aware of what my point was. Don't wander down the rabbit hole, especially not when I use deceptively facile argumentation to lure my quarry into the open. OK you are right we cannot compare Obamacare and the Patriot Act. One, the Patriot Act had overwhelming almost unanimous support in both Houses on Congress and as such it passed easily through regular order. This is not ramming through a law.
Obamacare on the other hand had all of its support from only one party and had bipartisan opposition. It passed the Senate only because for a few short months they had a supermajority and completely shut out the other party, the Republicans, from the process. Not even one single Republican amendment allowed. When they no longer had a supermajority after the death of Ted Kennedy, MA Democrats changed their state laws allowing the governor to immediately appoint a Sentator to preserve the supermajority. How many times in history to you recall the Senate holding an emergency session on Christmas Eve to pass a law? Once, Obamacare 60-39. Then the entire House vote, budget reconciliation process I am not going to rehash again, but to say it passed barely with all Democrat votes and through a parliamentary maneuver they avoided a Senate vote to thus ram through Obamacare. That's ramming through a bill. You're entire argument was wrong even mentioning the Patriot Act in the same breath. Thus you made the incorrect comparison by even bringing it up. Phoenix.Amandarius said: » the Patriot Act had overwhelming almost unanimous support in both Houses on Congress and as such it passed easily through regular order. This is not ramming through a law. But now I can at least see where your perspective is coming from. Moreover, the debate in question is with regards to timeframe. And that should have been readily apparent given that was always the criterion stated over here on Planet Rationality. I acknowledged several of the points you keep hammering on about before you even made them, whereas you keep clinging to straw-man claims and double-speak because one of your favored pieces of fascist, anti-constitutional legislation was the (very intentionally chosen) target of contrast. Amand, I wouldn't bother with these radicals anymore.
You have better luck teaching a brick wall to tap dance than it would be to show these radical parrots how wrong they are. You spend a whole lot of time saying, "You just can't teach all these communist ***." Yet you bring facts, compelling argument, and actual teachable data to the debate at a rate of about 1%. When confronted with any kind of counter-point, especially backed up by all those facts and such that you avoid, you scurry back into crying about being ganged up on.
Not that I expect you to change, because you've made it very clear that you will not alter tack under most circumstances, but... Put up or shut up. It's beyond tiresome. I did bring up support for my statements in the past, it was ignored with "NOU" responses. I have also pointed out common knowledge facts and the radicals (you included) ignore them for your own version of "reality" The only hope you can ever have is when you mature. You really can't survive in your childish state forever, at least not without outside support. I for one hope you aren't one of those "disabled" people who get monthly checks from the government so you can smoke pot to help cure your "depression" for whatever life has been "unfair" to you. So, like I said, I (and Amand) would have a better chance of teaching an immovable object to tap dance than it would be to educate you in true reality. Either way, good day to you. You think your activities on this site are mature KN? I needed a good laugh this morning. Thank you.
Good Lord...
So much for hoping for some useful information on ACA. tl;dr "My penis is bigger" "No, mine is" "No, you're wrong" "You're defining 'bigger' wrong" "No, you are" Carry on same lines for a page. Since after all you obsess over pokemon and send taunting PMs to people you don't like. Have you really supported your statements with facts? Since in the rare times you do submit a link to support a statement, (you usually demand someone bring up support and then disregard it within 5 minutes of it's posting), they're always 700 pages of tax code and the page you refer to never reflects the point you're trying to make. Mostly you spout opinion and conjecture. That's why I keep pushing at you people instead of throwing up my hands and joining in your little pity-me circle jerk. But you and the others like you rarely even try. On those rare occasions you attempt to front an argument, your "common knowledge" is roundly refuted by verifiable facts and you're back to weeping that everyone is out to get you. It's hard not to interpret you and your side as having a vested interest in failing handily. And that's sad because the pundits for your side of the argument are generally the better debaters. Why do you even post if you are already convinced you'll fail? I mean, it's obvious that you really just want the attention and, congratulations, I'm enabling the hell out of your disorder.
