I am a programmer, and what you suggested is the kind of thing that leads to the spaghetti-ing of code in the first place.
While I imagined that was the case, tying players and monsters to the same database seems like a stupid idea. I'm amazed that it took this long to cause a problem.

"People want the ability to change race, so we're giving everyone more HP and MP". I see what you did there, SE.
leaving money on the table. I know i would pay for a race change, and I am sure others would too

Some of the issues they have after changes are pretty surprising and it really does shine some light on how poor their coding is.

I mean I deal with computers all day long and dabble in programming so I understand how certain things can be an issue and how easy it is to miss them. I look at the update notes and am just dumbfounded with some of the corrections and also with how long those things went without being fixed. Plus... with how occluded the system is from the start, I'm sure there are all kinds of issues that players just don't have the info to report. I just assume they are going to be in random areas rather than the heavily scrutinized ones.

Increasing player HP/MP will just mean they'll have to dial up mob difficulty even more to compensate. Look forward to stronger AoEs. SE doesn't just give away universal buffs without calibrating future content to take into account all the tools and toys we get (RME being the sole exceptions)

They aren't "increasing it" so much as lessening the differences between races. Galka's won't get any more HP. Taru won't get any more MP. I don't know why they would increase difficulty because of this. It's not really a buff so much as an equalization and it's only lessening it, not eliminating it.

Though I don't have any problem with more difficult content.

And you'll get more of both ^^ Being hume I don't really have a lack of either but I'm not bothered by getting a little boost.
