So i learned today that this was implemented.

I am wondering how long can you idle until you are disconnected?

I know it is not long, because all i did was afk for dinner (No i am not complaining, i am not one of those people who stay logged in 24 hours so no one else can take my spot).

I am just curious to know how long i can be away before i will be logged out.

If it's taking you 30+ min on the toilet, you may need to add more fiber to your diet.

you can always talk with npc as in buying something. I have stayed logged in by mistake for a few hours when work called talking to goldsmith npc trying to buy mat.

... or you can stay online by getting called away while talking to your retainer, then return 6 hours later to see that not only are you still connected, but none of your goodies have been selling on the market board the entire time. :(

I've heard it has to be active input, if you just sit with the joystick stuck in the same position, your character may be moving, but you won't be qualifying as active. Not 100% sure on that, though.

Auto run doesn't work but if you tie/rubberband/put a shoe against your controller, it'll work. At least it did for me the time when I had to put babies to sleep. Just has to be some physical input to the game, even if it's the exact same input the entire time. Though I'm sure they could change that.

This is late but hey...

Auto running into a wall a la "airship floating" does not work. You can, however, start crafting and afk for as long as you feel like it. Staying in a cutscene also works. I haven't tried afking while talking to an NPC but some folks say that works as well.

Click an aetheryte and you'll stay online or find an npc that locks you in place. Normal shop NPCs allow you to move around and won't keep you from being disconnected

It doesn't have to be active input, having something pushing the analog stick to the side won't activate the D/C timer.

Also, for PS3 users, if you hold the analog stick and then open your PS3 menu (not sure what the official name is) and let go of the analog stick you won't D/C.

I don't really leave it on because I'm not comfortable leaving my PS3 on when I'm not using it, but I accidentally found that out after AFKing for an hour.
