I don't recall the source offhand, but there has actually been numerous reports of pirating not actually having a major effect on the companies / artists. They still make buku cash.
Not to mention, you can usually use the emulator to run the actual game (I downloaded the Playstation emulator so I could play games while traveling, and used the actual CDs in some cases. Emulation is always behind the curve anyways. Usually it's supporting a system there is no longer development for in the first place, so there's no need to get butthurt over hurting developer/distribution companies over things that wind up in antique game stores/ebay anyways.

Game companies are going out of business because and heres the big shocker businesses of all types are going out of business all over the place for a good year or 2 now

Clearly my burned copy of Tatsunoko vs Capcom and my downloaded Lee Hyori album is causing these other non-related businesses their future to go down in the tubes.
