I agree wholeheartedly.
I think the wife schedules piano lessons on mondays to spite me. I like shitty movies for some reason, & wow did I watch the mother of all dog turds last night. It was on netflix and called '***'. It rambled on forever with no sense of direction, then came crashing to an end that was so stupid and pointless in both concept and delivery, that it made you want to kick a kitten. I can't emphasize enough, that no one should waste their time with it, ever.

I'm trying to quit smoking for the 847th time... been wearing those stupid nicotine patches... to try to keep from killing people...
I went out grocery shopping on saturday with my wife and started hearing the music.... first part of this one I think....
you know.... darkness falling, evil rising, hatred for mankind intensifies. sort of thing.
I picked the wrong checkout lane like always and old misses moldenoldy was scanning in ultra slow motion chatting away with the woman in front of me and their stupid stories back and forth about people the other couldn't possibly know... my grandson did something similar one time and so on... can't figure out the pos terminal... slowest bagging process in the history of retail shopping... and finally it's over. NO... not quit yet, one of them has decided that they need to finish their end of their pointless story.... my wife rubs my back...are the veins in my forehead sticking out? are my eyeballs filling with blood?

your story reminds me of my saturday night. I told my sister I'd watch her boys for a few hours, and my wife refused to help, so I was stuck tending to those annoying little booger pickers until 7-8pm or so. ugh. my god, this life was never meant for me.

I always take them somewhere. Rather than listen to them announce how bored they are every five minutes in my house while they trash the place... Pack all the kids into the truck and move em out...

It's gotta be age/weather appropriate of course... parks, bowling alleys, chuckie cheese type places, go karts, batting cages, wherever... as long as it isn't my house. give them twenty bucks worth of quarters/arcade tokens and let them go ape ***...come back when you run out...
then find a strategic location / catbird seat and let them tire themselves out....
both my pops and father in law will find work for the kids to do and they will make them do chores until they have sore backs and blisters and are begging to every deity there ever was to never ever go back....
not quite there yet myself but I do see several advantages to their strategy... as they are very seldom bothered to do sitting of any kind.
