That just seems super isolated. Most towns of that few people aren't that far away from a slightly bigger town that would have at least the fake culture of a crappy Chinese takeout place.
(For instance, I just referenced Nanty-Glo earlier. There are similar small towns around it, all <2k people. But they've got a Walmart within 20 minutes never-the-less.)
