I just had a moment.

Devo? At church? Are we talking about "Whip It" Devo?

I guess I've always had labs / mutts. I think if a cat can be taught though, any dog should be able to be.

Part of me wants a mutt, tbh, just because as much as I like some purebreds, I have a streak of, "*** you, snooty AKC. This mutt is equally as awesome as your 'papered' puppies!"

IDK. People used to dump off dogs around my parents' "neighborhood" (minimum two or more acre lots) in HS until they sold it off last year. My dad would half-assedly take them in and get them spayed, neutered and vaxed (there were nine plus our three dogs at the very pique of this time).

Some mutts...Some mutts...Can be just as stupid as the most inbred pure-bred. Some mutts have a death wish and will catch a car. In the off-chance some mutts survive, they will gladly catch another and meet their destiny.

my aunt had a mutt that was run over literally like 15 times. was hit by motorcycles, snowmobiles, and just about every other form of conveyance one could imagine. It lived like 17 years and eventually went blind and ran in circles to keep moving. it's sense of smell was top notch right until the end. when my aunt would leave the house when he was too blind to tag along anymore, he let out these soul crushing howls until she returned.

I think I already told the story of my uncle's dog who jumped through plate glass windows to go on neighborhood strolls, only to get picked up by the police and threatened with death if my uncle -- who was in the hospital having knee surgery and high as a *** kite on anesthesia -- couldn't produce his vaccination paperwork?

=(

My dog went blind too and would bump into walls and stuff if he deviated from his normal known paths around the house. I would come home from college to visit and he'd glue himself to my side the entire time (another unusual trait for Westies. They're very friendly pups, but rarely one-person dogs). It was really upsetting to me at the time because I knew he was probably on his way out. They had to have him euthanized not long after that. I still remember my mom calling me to tell me about that. ._.;

A tale of resilience that went to soul crushing. :(

Think that's the first time I've read it. Jeez.

Have you ever heard a rabbit scream? Owning a lab will make you a savant of rabbit screaming sonnets. Still can't help but love a lab.

EDIT: But the rabbit I had as a pet they intuitively knew was off-limits. Wild rabbits were fair game.

Yeah, Gus went on a neighborhood walk about, snapped at some kids who pestered him, and even though the kids' mother said her kids were being mean brats to the dog, the police made my aunt bug my uncle in the hospital to dig out Gus' paperwork or else they were going to haul him off.

I haven't. I've heard it's a thing though. I'd consider a lab -- my grandma used to have a beautiful black lab that my uncle (same uncle who owned Gus) literally rescued from an abusive owner (as in, my uncle drove up in the middle of the night and stole him because the owner was a scumbag; also so high and/or drunk that there were luckily no legal ramifications of the dognapping).

He was a really great dog, really easygoing and great with kids.

Not so great with grown men he wasn't used to, though. He liked my uncle and I (I was still a kid anyhow), but he didn't like my dad nor my stepdad...ever.

Edit: To be fair, my uncle never really liked my dad much either until many years later.

So, after yesterday's puppytalk I was so missing my ol' dog I asked my mom if she had any extra photos around of him and me.

She's gonna scan some and get them to me.

But to cheer me up a little (herself too, because she still sorely misses her last dog who passed away about 18 months ago), she told me this story about her newest dog, Bridee, who is about six months old:

My step dad is home alone with the dog, went and used the bathroom, took a piss, flushed/washed hands, etc., goes wandering about the house again doing whatever.

Bridee goes into the bathroom and just starts barking incessantly.

Step dad goes into the bathroom, can't figure out what the hell she's on about. Notes he left the toilet seat up when he was in there and puts it down.

Bridee stops barking and goes back to the living room, lays down.

Dave calls my mom and says, "your dog is definitely a woman."

Well that was interesting.

Someone plugged in an old heater and blew a circuit. I had to discover which of the about 12 circuit boxes it was in. By they way, they're scattered throughout the building.

Box K for future reference.
