I'm guessing she meant she had her baby on November 27th which was friday after thanksgiving. and the "cut it close" is in reference to missing being in the hospital on thanksgiving....which she had worried about.
so... almost an almost nine pounder... and clearly the baby wanted seconds on turkey.... so I got five bucks on boy!

I have a special place in my heart for trains for a plethora of reasons. But I feel your pain. I have garbage trucks that backup the wrong way on one way streets in a few places on my way to work for pickup and they stop everything for several minutes while they *** about.

That happens in my office with Scroll Lock a lot, because it causes our main work software to go apeshit for reasons I'm still not entirely clear on. But inevitably someone freaks out -- sometimes to near tears -- because things aren't working right.

1) People use computers all day and can't even be bothered to learn the basics.
2) When something "goes wrong" (95% of the time, user error) the explanation they give is, "Something funky happened" "It's completely not working" "It's totally crashed" or "Some message popped up." Never any actual description of what happened. Ever. Btw, the message that pops up is usually something along the lines of "This doesn't match this" meaning you just need to change what it's telling you. But let's not read it, let's just go running for help and panicking.
Edit: They don't even use the phone to call my office because they can't be bothered to remember my extension...

I started playing stupid years ago when it comes to the computers. I'm still bitter I let anyone know I know how to fix a lot of their problems because I still get phone calls when they should be calling the tech people instead. -.-

If it's a tool you use on a daily basis for your job, you should at least know the extreme basics. Num lock I feel is within the extreme basics.
Same with vehicles, you should at least know how to check your oil and tire pressure, as well as change a flat tire IMO. Takes only a few minutes to learn.

I constantly tell them, "I know nothing of credit card machines. I don't use them, you do. All I did was plug them in." (partially untrue, I do know the admin codes and menu navigation, but that's all about setup not fixing it) and they look at me like a deer in headlights. So I go out there, unplug the machine for a few seconds, plug it in and imagine that, it works again!
But their solution is to put a piece of paper over the machine with "Do not use" written on it.
