I've tried so hard to enjoy canned fish. It packs all kinds of good things and is cheap and low calorie.

Alas, I just can't. My palate finds it ***-all awful.

Bela has some good portugese ones with olive oil and pepper

I have to say, fresh sardines have little in common with their canned counterparts. Amazingly good.

Do you like pickles?
Try pickled herring.

Honestly, the bigger problem isn't the prep method, it's fish in general.

Strongly-flavored fish just sort of makes my mouth quite unhappy.

It's just...blech.

Do you not understand etymology!?

It's Friday, you should be thanking Odin's wife, Frigga!

Named after Freya

Quote:
Old English Frīgedæg ‘day of Frigga,’ named after the Germanic goddess Frigga, wife of the supreme god Odin and goddess of married love; translation of late Latin Veneris dies ‘day of Venus,’ Frigga being equated with the Roman goddess of love, Venus. Compare with Dutch vrijdag and German Freitag .

Edit: Oooh. Further research reveals this is a topic of debate of which I was not entirely aware. I was just looking to be a smartass with Meshi.

Quote:
In the stories of the gods and goddesses of the Angles and Saxons we find two goddesses, Frigga, the wife of Odin and queen of the gods, and Freya, the Goddess of Love. Some people think that Friday was named after Frigga, and others that it was Freya's day. Since very similar stories are told of each of them, it is quite probable that they were really the same person. The Roman name for the day was Dies Veneris, the day of Venus, who, it will be remembered, was the Goddess of Love, and so corresponded to Freya. The modern French name is taken from the Latin and is vendredi.

I'm good with it either way; Pagan gods > contemporary nonsense.

Danish: Fredag, Freya's day

Depends on who you talk to
Quote:
Friday -- Freya's day

Middle English fridai
Old English frigedæg "Freya's day"
composed of Frige (genetive singular of Freo) + dæg "day" (most likely)
or composed of Frig "Frigg" + dæg "day" (least likely)
Germanic frije-dagaz "Freya's (or Frigg's) day"
Latin dies Veneris "Venus's day"
Ancient Greek hemera Aphrodites "day of Aphrodite"
Freo is identical with freo, meaning free. It is from the Germanic frijaz meaning "beloved, belonging to the loved ones, not in bondage, free".

Freya (Fria) is the Teutonic goddess of love, beauty, and fecundity (prolific procreation). She is identified with the Norse god Freya. She is leader of the Valkyries and one of the Vanir. She is confused in Germany with Frigg.

Frigg (Frigga) is the Teutonic goddess of clouds, the sky, and conjugal (married) love. She is identified with Frigg, the Norse goddess of love and the heavens and the wife of Odin. She is one of the Aesir. She is confused in Germany with Freya.

Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty.

Aphrodite (Cytherea) is the Greek goddess of love and beauty.

I have had a fever for four days now.. for no apparent reason... it's making my brain sluggish and I was already handicapped by my natural stupidity....

I drank a cup of vending machine coffee at a rest stop on the way back from cleveland tuesday and it kicked off some sort of war I had no idea was brewing... /rimshot

Fooddha, god of food, I humbly beseech thee to please forgive my food sins and transgressions... grant me the power to celebrate chinese wednesday and all the glories of your cornucopial bounty... amen.

You know, I went looking for an amusing terrorist meme, but somehow found this Asian parent meme instead and I find it funny as hell.
