I tried to warn you!!!! /screams

/Orange Juice Flashback!!!

jebus back in the old days the only way to get orange juice in ohio was reconstituted from frozen concentrated orange juice.

in restaurants for breakfast you would get like a shot glass full... just enough to make you want more...but you couldn't have any more, there were no free refills.

I switched to coffee early on and never looked back. bottomless cup, no complaining from pops and when combined with childhood, enough energy to power a small nuclear reactor... /six million dollar man on the treadmill

My only complaint is that I ran out of kummelweck rolls. I could have made more myself, but making them yourself lacks the nice feeling of being somewhere and knowing other people know what the hell you're actually eating.

Ah well. Still tasty.

It's leftover vegetarian pizza with chicken for me. Yes, I ask for chicken on my vegetarian pizza, no I don't feel awkward asking.

idk, kinda make sense asking this to the pizza place.

asking for all the vegetarian pizza ingredients + adding chicken to it.
would make it easier to order it(and maybe cheaper) than asking for each ingredient by itself.

Speaking multiple languages improves the development of a child's intellect, which is good. However we need to have a "world language" and english is perfect for it. Easy enough that anyone can learn it, something that can't be said about the other candidate which is chinese..not that you can't learn chinese, but what a pain that would be!
Definitely. English is the most appropriate IMO because it's already the Lingua Franca. I imagine it's the language with the highest amount of available information across all fields of knowledge.

Back to the original point of standardized language, I'll take Arabic (my mother tongue) as an example. I have great trouble understanding someone from Tunisia, for example. The sentence structure in their slang is different than mine, they use different vocabulary, words of the same root but in different forms than what I'm used to, different intonations...etc. All that in a French accent! So yeah, I can't fully comprehend neither their spoken nor written slang. Having some form of standardized Arabic is very beneficial in this situation. And the good news is that the standard is wholeheartedly accepted and respected (since it's largely based on the Qur'an and ancient Arabic poetry).

Which reminds me of when I checked a review of the Arabic Rosetta Stone software by a friend of mine. The software was terrible; full of mistakes, and using slang from somewhere in the Levant

I've seen it said repeatedly that Rosetta Stone isn't all that good. They just get a lot of good press because of their contract with the U.S. Dept. of State or some such.

It's good that we have rikssvenska (standard Swedish, what people in Stockholm speak) because sometimes I can't understand people in the north/south

Quote:
Standard Swedish (standardsvenska, rikssvenska) denotes Swedish as a spoken and written standard language. While Swedish as a written language is uniform and standardized, the spoken standard may vary considerably from region to region. Several prestige dialects have developed around the major urban centers of Stockholm, Helsinki, Gothenburg and Malmö-Lund.

Chinese Wednesday was already a thing I did.

I was just happy to see others did it too.

I didn't even know it was "a thing" outside of this office. I just knew there was one woman in the office who put together a big Chinese order office-wide every Wednesday. @.@

a deli we go to here, always gives us slice of pickle withh our sandwiches. didnt like em as a kid, but think they are yummy nowadays, in contrast to the flavor of the sandwich itself.

There are always kosher dill sandwich slices and spears in my fridge, as well as normally bread and butter pickle chips for burgers.

We're a pickle-eatin' household.
