Any really. People don't like to be touched and so you should never do that without their consent, at least that is the rule I go by.

that's not accurate at all, but I hear from good sources that the men in italy play pretty fast & loose with personal boundaries.

I didn't just mean sexually eh. Some people are touchy in general when talking to you.
I had a friend who would constantly push on my shoulder when talking to me, it was so annoying. And he wasn't even light about it, was like every sentence was a punch in the shoulder.

So does my wife, unless it's people she's close to. Which makes life around my paternal family sort of hell on her. They'll hug anything. They're like an entire clan of giant toddlers looking for the ideal teddy bear.

Well, of course it's dependent on familiarity. Just injecting a "***" since we went from cursing to courtesy jokingly.

I assumed, for some reason, you had to engage in the double peck on the cheek with the older members of your family. That's honestly less weird than the American default to casual hugging after only meeting the person a couple of times.

/side hug

/awkward double pat on the back

EDIT:

Yeah, I only hate huggers I don't know well enough to cross the hug threshold.

Both quite weird to me.

I guess I get it with my family as my wife is family even though they don't know her super-well, but have known me since infancy, and my family is very welcoming.

But overall I'm not hugging anyone I'm not super-cool with/related to and I'm certainly not kissing much of anyone who isn't my wife outside of the occasional peck on the check from my mother or grandmother.

not if you agree to just give it a try just try eliminating cursing out of your repertoire and see how it goes.

The problem here is you seem to think I operate on a day-to-day basis the entire day using "***" every other word. I certainly do not. I spend a good half of the day without uttering so much as a single "dammit" within ear shot of anyone else.

For me it's less about having to use the words all the time; it's about letting them fall in natural, casual conversation where they may and not having the world come to a screeching halt going, "he said a swear!"

I'm not big on arbitrary social taboos.

Shiva.Nikolce said: »

Strictly speaking, every word we utter is.

Unless you're an evolution denier.

Then you're a stupid screeching chimp.

Hugging is kind of a no-no over here unless you know someone very well

We don't talk to other people anywhere if we don't know them either lol

Seen some people try to talk to others on public transportation and that's just not gonna happen, no one ever speaks on the train or the bus

Honestly I was quite confused when I initially transitioned from the italian forums I was used to to the english ones.
On this side swearing seems so normal and part of the common vernacular, I was quite wary of using it too at first, but then I adapted to the way everyone seems to engage in casual conversation which seems to possess an ample use of ***, hells, damns, and sometimes even shits.

That's the kind of public transportation I can appreciate.

Not the Indian kind where if someone is sitting next to you, you hope they're the same gender or one of you is going to end up pregnant from how tightly you're all jammed in there.

Lack of confidence? Really? Well *** you, buddy! :P

In all seriousness, I curse like a sailor. But I know when to keep that in check. It really has nothing to do with whether or not I'm agitated or lacking confidence. It's just how I talk. I can be more eloquent if need be, but life is entirely too short to be that bothered by it.

Any word can convey agitation, when said in a certain way. No tone/body language to go by? Context helps.

This sort of stuff bothers me. I recently had a certain in-law crying to my fiance that I was mean because I said "What?" when my name was called. I may as well have said "What the *** do you want?" with the reaction I got, lol. Skin is too thin these days!

that's all a delusion you just made up. it's caused by your own inequities. I never said anything of the sort.

What I did say was try to eliminate all curse words from your vocabulary. they are a verbal crutch we all put too much weight on.

Absolutely agree. Why grasp at some imaginary, implied sentiment over an instance of shortness (especially when you might be preoccupied) or belting out a four letter word here and there among people who are familiar with you anyway?

How've you been lately?
