are you free tomorrow morning? -hands out envelope- Just got out of a meeting about the new building we're moving to in a few months and what needs to be done about it. The contractor has quoted us what appears to be relatively high.
More importantly, we want to sublet the building to another company which we sublet one of our current buildings to. They haven't given a yes or no to moving yet, if they say no we'll ask another company who does something similar to what we do. The owner of said company says he wants to downsize and eventually retire. Favorite part of the meeting, "Then he could teach Meshi and he could run the company." I am Meshi and I approve of this message, even if it is just a fleeting thought and may not even be a possibility. Asura.Dameshi said: » The contractor has quoted us what appears to be relatively high. ***IS EXPENSIVE GOD DAMN IT!!! IT DOESN'T BUILD ITSELF!!! ahem... excuse me, sorry about that... knowing too much about the construction industry, get three bids & take the middle one. Asura.Dameshi said: » "Then he could teach Meshi and he could run the company." hell ya, you're closer to being a big-shot than me, need a security guy? sounds like.
![]() also, sounds like a Red Coat Guy position might be available soon from the sounds of it, id like to fill that spot. Security? Maybe eventually. I'd have to see how everything is going first. give me 2/3's of that and ill make it work.
i would say half, but cardboard is not cheap, you know? I'm not in the electrical field, & would have to see the whole scope & such. I will repeat though, the best way really is to have 3 different guys quote it & take the middle. Ha! Why even ask that? You know what's weird? When you catch yourself picking up some of those. Addressing someone as ma'am or sir is something I don't even think about anymore, but I've caught myself bouncing with the same redneck cadence and accent a few times. "Thank yuh, Maaa'aaam/Suhr!" You refuse a bid that will make you more money? You don't have to estimate for all three, then go from there? None of us are or ever were in the construction field so we're literally just like "Well that there seems a bit too high. Yup. *smokes corn cob pipe*" Caitsith.Zahrah said: » Ha! Why even ask that? no one seemed to be getting me on that one, & I was cracking myself up. Caitsith.Zahrah said: » Hmmm? You refuse a bid that will make you more money? speaking strictly from the owner's perspective, the highest bid is usually just that, & the lowest is usually due to going cheap on materials, cutting corners, bid with the intent to change order le *** out of the plans, or possibly missing something in the scope. the low guy is not the best guy, for the owners' money. there are obviously tons of variables, & that's not always the case, but that's exactly what I would do, having dealt with these yahoo's for the last 10 years or so. Asura.Dameshi said: » "Well that there seems a bit too high. Yup. *smokes corn cob pipe*" that's what everyone says, & thus what drew my ire. lol, you are not alone. oh wait, dont open that envelope, wrong person.
that one goes to Ted, from Accounting My step brother does construction stuff also, and he's said the same thing. Well more along the lines of, "These Amish come in, and bid super low, do shoddy work, and end up costing more than everyone else in the long run."

Yeah, "too good to be true bids" are worth the level of suspicion and raised eyebrow. Usually, they're outed in due course for doing shoddy work or consistently going over their initial submission for their bids. That's how you get Bismarck.Misao said: » oh wait, dont open that envelope, wrong person. too late!!!! /glitterexplosion Asura.Dameshi said: » "These Amish come in, and bid super low, do shoddy work, and end up costing more than everyone else in the long run." kind of what I was eluding to, though not nearly as succinct. Are Flavin and Ramy on maternity leave?
Lucky ducks with their bank holidays and what have you. I miss lucky duck nights
