Told myself I wasn't going to play it because I loved FF too much to see online drama in it and if I wanted an online game, I always had the MUD I used to play and FPS/Diablo 2.
That resolve lasted all of, eh. Three months? And I started in 1/2004.
Oddly, while it makes me a wee bit nostalgic for the original days of FFXI, it actually makes me more nostalgic for everything else going on at that time in my life.

Seraph was a hotbed of drama back in the early days, because way back when a huge portion of the NA HNM crowd got their start in one linkshell that remade, broke up, reconciled, then broke up again but still did Dynamis together even though they hated each other, etc.
This ***went on for years. Well after Seraph was merged with Bismarck, in fact.
most hnmls would try to keep stuff in their play times. god knows we used to try to keep sw/di in only our active time so no other groups could camp them.

In many ways I still consider them the finest iteration of online RPG'ing.
They married pen-and-paper with multiplayer better than almost anything else ever.
Though the one I played went through so many adjustments and additions toward my ending there that I had to give it up. It became essentially a PVP MUD, and I was sick of PVP by that time.

I leveled smn just to help people get through promys in CoP <diamond dust!> but it turned out that job was a lot of fun

To be fair, I have learned a lot of that game over the years just by watching somebody else do it.

I never used deodorize for anything other than a joke. I would deodorize my buddy on occasion and say that his character stinks.

Other options:
Drink heavily. During class if necessary.
Actually beat the students.
Start teaching a different subject. Still use tests for the subject you were originally teaching so everyone fails.
Dress and act like The Dude.
Slip laxatives in a random student's drink every day.
Break a pool cue in half, toss it in the middle of the room, and announce that the last one standing has a chance of ever graduating.
I'm no expert, but one of those is bound to work.
