My dad has really more mellowed out over the years too lol... maybe its because he doesn't have to deeal with us on a daily basis lol... I kid! My mom and dad probably still do too much for us lol... always making sure that we're ok... I got pretty lucky in the parent pool...

Yeah. My mom doesn't care. My dad though...IDK. It's just in the past few years that it's materialized.

Rebel without a clue... so be it then, EVIL it is!
my adoptive parents are Strict Catholics in the sense they believe in almost nothing that the church teaches but are somehow bound to their "faith" by a fear of going to hell that was instilled in them very early. So they go to church every sunday and pretend to be active in the church or whatever. They sent all of us to catholic school.
I, on the other hand, never understood any of it. The priests would tell me things and I would say "do you have any idea at all how bat ***crazy that all sounds!?"
I chose "Oliver" as my confirmation name because it doesn't mean anything and wrote an elegant letter to the church pastor denouncing the whole confirmation process as hogwash because I was too young to confirm or deny anything so long as I lived in my parents house... and was fourteen.... believing the sanctity of the confessional extended to the written word. It didn't and I was publicly lambasted for being an idiot and forced to be confirmed under another name.
We tangled again... the pastor and I, he said I couldn't consider myself a member of the church unless I contributed more heavily in my weekly offering envelope. I stated that if anything he had ever said about anything were true, jesus himself would appear and beat the living ***out of him with a cat of ninetails for being a greedy hypocrite... what does god need my money for when he can just will ***into existence?.... jesus never showed up and I became one of the youngest people to ever get excommunicated from the church...before I could further contaminate the other children with my heresy.
so be it then Churchy LaFemme, evil it is! Muhahahahahahahaaha!!!
<insert scene from dracula where he pierces the cross with a sword>
ok that part didn't happen....
I said, Meh, to hell with it... let them all drink the purple Kool-Aid if they really want to, it's no sweat off my balls... You want to believe? I admire you for being able to. Something went wrong with the download when they tried to program my brain. The files are all corrupted.
I wrote my own program but unfortunately it's mostly copy pasta from books and movies and cartoons I have watched. it doesn't make a whole lot of sense when don quixote flies in on the millennium falcon and kills the dragon with an indifference ray....

I thought 10% was common also, and voluntarily. What denomination is this? Baptist? LOL!
I thought my confirmation was fine, but yes...What does a thirteen to fifteen year old really know? If you're also in a area where there are not enough options to experience outside of Christianity, how do you even have a solid confirmation of your Christianity?
I only went to a Synagogue (the only one in town, and there weren't many parishioners to speak of), a Catholic church, a Methodist Church, a Pentecostal (crazy-bones) church, and a Baptist church for Confirmation. :/
EDIT: I also find it funny that most Baptists and Methodists don't know the origin of their denomination.

I was fortunate enough to move to the other side of the state at the age of 11. My grandparents from my dad's side were pushing the catholicism, & I was long gone to the wild west by the time confirmation rolled around. I can't imagine it would've went well anyway. I was very similar to Niko in asking waaaaaaaaaay too many questions for anyone to be comfortable with.
stated that if anything he had ever said about anything were true, jesus himself would appear and beat the living ***out of him with a cat of ninetails for being a greedy hypocrite...
lmao!
my grandpa on my dad's side was an army ranger right before WWII broke out, well the poor *** ended up in most major engagements in the pacific.
well his kids are a bunch of ***, & at one point they were all discussing what they were going to do with his money, house, ect, when he died (as he sat there), & I remember being just 14-16 and thinking "these *** are cold hearted...." well about that time my grandpa piped up with "Idk wtf you kids are talking about, I will be buried with every dime I have, so I can buy smokes in hell" to which his eldest daughter replied, "O stop it dad, you're not going to hell" his eyes got all big and he said "I know a few thousand japs that would disagree with you"
he was a funny old guy.

the reason they do it at that age is try to convince kids they made an adult decision that they are going to have to stick with into adulthood...
Because if they wait until the kids have a driver's license they can just forget it lol...
I think everyone has to question it at the time. I was the only one that tried to made a federal case out of it... and ended up being branded a conspiracy theorist looney...
I think the WORST thing I did was refuse to shut up and go along with it. It made the other children nervous and start asking questions.
The correct answer is the blank spot under the other three answers. that's how you get into the tenshodo!!!

I had a decent go with it though... I got lucky in that one of the parish preists at the time.. God rest his soul... was really understanding and engaging about the whole thing when I brought my doubts to his table... same with my parents... neither condemned me in any way for questioning it or wanting to put it off...
as for others having to question it I highly doubt most anyone else even takes it seriously lol... it was just another thing to do lol... no one really held you accountable after either... I eventually did get confirmed but yeah... I haven't been a practicing Catholic in quite some time...

That is awesome!!! I love WWII/Depression Era grandpa stories! EAT THEM UP!
That's so bizarre. How *** up is that to talk about someone's impending death! My brother and I were both so squeemish when my grandfather tried to talk about our inheritance with us while he was dying. I get uneasy when my mom or dad talk about it, and when we were discussing life insurance for our son. It's all so weird. I'm covered and the hubby is covered. I just hate talking about the possibility of anyone dying, and I know that's terribly infantile.
I have a bunch of WWII swag from my grandfathers. More from the American side though. I think every little heirloom is passed to me from the American side since I'm the only girl in my generation. I have some nifty little baubles from my grandmother and great-grandmother, and of course, every family photo and album from the turn of the century on.

I haven't been able to come up with a plausible alternate theory that makes anyone feel better about dying than heaven.
I agree with the buddhists, in that, we're in hell now, & based on many variables, probably just end up doing it again, due to our vast ignorance during life when we die.
generally speaking though, it doesn't make people feel better.

It made me feel great!
I was almost a Buddhist for about fifteen minutes until the teacher said the goal of all buddhists is to no longer need buddism and I said well ***, I'm already there! Hell, that was easier than I thought! Then I slapped him on the back and thanked him for his time. I wanted to apply to the Guinness book of world records for having achieved enlightenment in record time but they said that was a difficult thing to verify.

I always thought of Buddhism as more of a philosophy. I do like the idea of Jesus spending the unaccounted for years of his life learning Buddhism and bringing it back to the Mediterranean.

I bet in real life, Niko is the nicest, quietest liberal on the planet.
Edit: As of 2010-10-05 14:48:06 CST, Ni reached 10,000 pages.
Since we all can't be on the same linkshell in game, this can be our cross server linkshell thread.
Like most linkshells, it can be pretty dead at times. Other times it's full of intense conversations about either rl, gear, goals, pokemon or anything else you want to contribute.
We can cover any sort of topic at all, within reason of the forum rules. No real main topic, just a bunch of FFXIAH friends/people coming on and discussing random things.
http://www.nationstates.net/nation=royal_kingdom_of_ni
Continuation from: http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/2873/ffxiah-linkshell/732/#150486
Update: Sorry Eternaltriumph, too much has changed D: (Page 698)
Eternaltriumph said: Yeah Chuu. Bringing you up to speed, Ludoggy is the LS pedophile. I'm the fountain of random and useless knowledge that makes you go "Hrm" with the occasional side of "holy shit he said what?"
Kungfu is the LS nutjob, spouting super random things that are usually sexist, until Savvy or Alyria comes into the room. Then he's a classic case of sexual harrassment. Rumaha is also true to the second part; we're wondering about his sexuality though.
Daj is Ludoggy's gay lover. Not much else is known about this Asuran. Tairo is kinda new, but since is a female and Alyria's lesbian lover, she fit right in real quick.
Celene(F) and Rowland(M) are more of the shyer members, but often say things that are witty, have a good pun and sometimes cause three page discussions. Celene hates when people hit on her. It doesn't stop them from trying.
Krizz is just social and likes to kill time here during work Tbest is about the same, except tends to be a douche to guys and affectionate toward girls.
Alyria is the most social female, gets groped a lot without provoking it by others, and Tairo ends up stabbing people for it. Cai is just a barrel of lols, I might be gay for him. If I wasn't straight.
Not sure about Citag, s/he's new. Kiriyu is just an in-out kinda person. Says one thing every three days that every guy makes a big fuss over. Ludoggy gets really defensive since she's asian and underage (might be 18 now).
Artem is the wayward soul that makes you ponder the meaning of life by constantly reminding us life can suck. But he deals, and so do we. About the same for Savannah, except people are more "AWH!" to her because of a vagina involved.
Dasva is the ex military man (as is Krizz but this doesn't apply to him) who hates the world and plots a way to destroy most of it.
Number2 is kinda like a mix between Cai and I; never bashes, likes to laugh and has odd avatars. His current suits a lot of the convos this LS gets into. Barti is most well known for his moustache. He gives mousatche rides for a fee. I'm missing a few people but whatever. CARRY ON!
Luelle Smells.
