I'm trying to quit smoking and today just didn't start off well when I finally said I'm done. Now I'm hungry, have an urge to smoke and really want to go home to play some ODST. God this day is dragggggggggggggggggggggggggging.

So, you are on day one.

Good luck with that though, more than half the people who "quit" smoking end up going back within the first month of their quiting anyway.

Way to be motivational. Dont listen to him. Beat the statistics!

Its called being truthful.

Do you really want to lie to anyone?

I wasnt lying to him at any point in anything I said. I was providing him with support and encouragement.

Thats the reason.

You are so caught up into something else that you don't realize anything else.

Which is also a bad thing.

You also lose mental capacities if you overexert this, and you also lose mental discernments towards reality and fantasy also.

But, whatever works for you, I wish you luck, and hope you don't fall under the statistics, which you probably will (otherwise, it wouldn't be the general norm, would it?)

;~; teh scary.

I found more or less the same thing when quitting XI, Sectum. It was all about filling the giant time gaps and getting out of the regular schedule. Then again, there's no addictive substances that I'm inhaling with XI ..except all that freaky elf sex. D:

In this case, they are both one and the same.

You can be encouraging and truthful at the same time. But, when statistics show that you will fail at doing something, then why would you want to encourage that failure? Odds are, you will destroy them more than help them with your comments because, guess what, he not only failed himself, but now he also failed you. You honestly wish to have that hanging over his head?

Good luck is all is needed to be said. Showing false hope is just going to make the crushing defeat even worse.

Do 100% of smokers go back after quitting? No; therefore, there is a chance of winning. Ergo, we're not encouraging his failure. God, you're such a Debbie Downer.

If that happens, you have not only a weak mind, but a really low mental capacity, considering the human mind is built to be put under pressure, to focus and exert itself.

:/ I don't wanna move to a server where I don't know anyone, as I don't make friends easily.

Pissing people off is too easy for me.

I've tried a few months ago, but alcohol is an evil thing.

I know I can do it again, but not having the tools with me this time sucks.

I.E. Candy/snacks

You know I can go all day without smoking if I'm playing FF and I have a lot going on so I can't take a break.

Having never had to quit smoking/drinking I cannot offer you specific advice, just general habit kicking tips :x Occupying your mind with FF is one way to go about it, find a hobby(FF fits that) distract yourself and eventually the brain cells that make you crave nicotine will die out and you will lose interest.

Not necessarily, but find a hobby to occupy your time and keep your mind distracted. Some people act like smoking with pretzel sticks etc etc, you can also smoke less and less till its down to none.

Edit**

Lesser of 2 evils really lol

I shove a mouthful of hard candy and just go about my business. Chantix worked wonders for me though. For those days that I failed, it forced me not to smoke since it made the cigarette taste like ***again.

You rely too much on numbers Korpg, just because "everyone else" has troubles with it, you have to take it down to the personal level and find out more about him before you can make accusations like that.

It can't be too out of the ordinary for someone to quit smoking, otherwise I'm sure there would be a movie about how one man overcame his struggle to stop smoking!

Numbers don't lie. They can be skewed, but in all honesty, thats the person who made the numbers, not the numbers themselves. Thats the beauty of numbers period.

Everything breaks when given enough pressure. Thats why I said:

Quote:
if you overexert this

meaning, when you go over the breaking point. What is the breaking point? I don't know the answer to that question, but do you honestly want to test it out?

When he does fail, do you want to know that you encouraged his failure? Its a very high probablilty that he will fail. Why? Cause numbers don't lie. Over 50% fail within the first month doesn't mean that he has a little less than 50% of suceeding, it means that he has a little less than 50% of suceeding the first month. People still fail after that.

Very very very few people actually, 100%, truly quit smoking. And thats after years of anguish. I personally don't want to encourage his pain over quiting. So, I say "Good luck"

statistics, especially those concerning addictive products like crack and heroine(or whatever you smokers use), can be skewed to show that the product itself isn't as lethal as people claim it to be.

And why is the ad on this page asking me if i have ADHD? Everyone knows that isn't a real disorder.

Some mind's are built for overexertion, not all, but some people also know their breaking point, you have a fair point. But not all people are equal in mental capacity, some fight off addiction easier etc etc.
