Mmm ok. A lot of my comrades do that kind of diet to lose weight before a PRT. It all comes back though. :( Makes me sad.
How much are you looking to lose? Low carb isn't really my cup of tea, but I respect anyone who is making the effort. I lost 70 lbs doing it the calorie way. Just make sure you don't get it off and go ape ***and put it back on.

Yeah, like I say, just trying to trim all I can before I go on vacation in 2 weeks. I am really only carrying about 10 extra lbs (6'1 and 195lbs right now). After I get off vacation I am going back to low-cal.
I only need to lose like another 10 lbs, but it's hard to keep it up when you're looking good. Being fat was better motivation for me lol. I'm 5'7' and 163 lbs.
My hardest problem is my wife. She is very supportive to my diet, but she is also one hell of a cook. And I mean the good stuff too. She cooks different foods for herself and the kids and sometimes I just want to tear into it.

I live at home right now while I'm still in school. Cakes being made everyday doesn't make it easy to stay committed to fitness.
I imagine not. Also, not sure how old you are, but for me after 26, my metabolism basically disappeared. Last few years have been hell trying not to put weight on. Especially when I spend about 10 hours a day in a truck.
I'm only 22, and on top of that, my Adderall makes my metabolism burn like an extra 100 calories a day. Adderall is also an appetite suppressant too. I'd be insulting myself if I gave the meds most of the credit. I've only had the meds for 2 months, and I've lost 70 lbs over the last 10 months.

Ketosis is what a low/no carb diet does to your body. It basically makes your body think it is starving and it starts eating its own fat for energy. For the technical version, you can look it up on wikipedia. It uses a lot of big words that I don't understand :)
Edit: Let me warn you though, it takes a lot of willpower. It's freaking hard to not cheat, and cheating makes you have to start all over.
I didn't have a hard time cheating at all. I'm having more of a hard time not cheating now that I'm back in shape than when I was fat.
Could explain why people keep telling me to go low/no carb then. I was actually going to start a low carb diet when I move back to my apartment and can buy my own food.
Well, you're going to hear two opinions. I did say I respect anyone who loses weight, but I'm still going to advise against the carb way. I haven't watched my carbs since I started last August., so I guess it comes down to whether you want to be able to eat bread and ***.
It's one of those things to take weight off in a hurry. It is actually something I would not suggest for long-term results. I say go low calorie unless you are losing weight for some specific event.
Well, as I'm to understand, it's hard to hold down the weight unless you lose like 100lb and go to a very controlled carb content when you're done, and even then you can easily jolt back up quite a bit.
Also, I'm pretty sure your body is technically going into shock, which is not the healthiest thing to do in the world.
But, your body is made to do this when it needs to.

Most people can't do as low calorie as I do either. I've been doing 1300 calories a day since last August.

Yeah, that is why I do not suggest it long-term. I am just trying to drop a couple of pounds before I go on vacation. After that, I am going back to just trying to eat healthy.
I might be mistaken, but I think it's easier to maintain your weight on a calorie deficit just because of the nature of it. After you're done losing, you're just going to boost your intake to match your BMR.
