We had a good weekend here. The kiddo had an International Seminar for his martial arts, so we spent most of Saturday there and he got to train with the Grand Master and founder. His instructor was also promoted to 5th degree black belt and Master as well, which was pretty exciting.

Yesterday was beautiful! We spent most of the day outside on the porch watching the kids playing in the pool, while reading and kicking back. We did take a couple of hours to go see The Hunger Games though.

How was your weekend?

@Row: Moving sucks, but at least you got a good start.

@Elspetta: That sounds fun! Pretty cool he got to train with the Grand Master :O He gonna be a ninja? :P

My weekend went by so fast x.x Saturday a couple friends were in town and brought some homebrewed beer with them so we hung out and drank some beer. Yesterday I had to help my brother out, he bought stuff for his new patio and it couldn't fit in his car so I had to go bail him out :P It's all good, got to hang out with him for a bit.

All in all it was relatively uneventful but went by at the speed of light o.o

I haven't read the book, so I really enjoyed the movie. I honestly didn't even know there was a book (or series of books) until we saw the movie.

Am I just lucky? Does/did this sort of thing happen a lot in school?
I don't remember this kind of stuff happening a lot when I was in school. I hung out with a mix of the people; some where "band geeks," some where ASP, and some ended up being valedictorians. Everyone kind of hung out together and got along. If the bullying happened, it was definitely on a much lesser degree then it is now.

I do think it happens more now and I have no idea why. My son only has 4 fingers on his left hand. He is in Kindergarten and he is already getting made fun of and bullied on the bus by the older kids. I'm not sure if parents just aren't paying enough attention to what their kids are doing or what, but it definitely needs to stop.

I don't really think it's that "geeks" are "cool", it's just more socially acceptable now. :o

I was never picked for much of anything. It was actually rare to be bullied for much of anything at my schools, but it did happen. A friend of mine would get food and such thrown at her a few times a week because she dressed like a "freak" and liked Marilyn Manson. All she would be doing is walking through the quad to get to wherever she hung out(drama room xD) and I would see it happen. Stood up for her a few times, made me sad to see it happen. She was a really good person. -_-

Major problem in bold. Not trying to say it's all the parents fault, but this is how it is with the way things are now. Too busy playing with their iphones to give a ***what their child is up to. :3

When I was younger and in school I wouldn't really talk much, I was kind of a loner. But because of this, everyone thought I was really smart for some reason. I did well on my tests/homework and such but I wasn't exactly worried about getting A's and I never studied in my life.

But I was never bullied and no one ever told me to do their homework for them or else. Maybe it stems all the way back from elementary school when the only thing to do was play basketball or football at recess. I went to elementary school with the popular kid that ended up being the high school quarterback. (You know the kind, the type of guy everyone wants to say something funny to and they have to have his attention to tell everyone)
Yeah, this is pretty much me. Throughout many of my years in middle and high school, I wanted to be one of the cool kids. I think it was about my Sophomore year that I realized that being popular wasn't for me. So, I started hanging out with the Goth kids, even though I technically fell under the "Metalhead" clique, to which... I was pretty much the only one. This also meant that by my Senior year, I had long hair and a full beard and I actually got the respect I had always wanted previously. Of course, by then I didn't want it. I was so used to being the "antisocial nonconformist" that I couldn't give two shits about my new-found popularity.

Of course, now that ***doesn't matter to me a bit. But, that was high school drama, for you.

Also, just thought I'd say this as well... I had a dream last night that Ni was deleted by the mods. Not sure why. But it scared me...

My school had very very little bullying. For the most part, everyone seemed to get together. There were a few kids who did get picked on a little, but I can't remember fights breaking out. Though one time I did have to... well let's say I had to take care of some business <.< Put an end to it quite swiftly.

ANYWAY other than that, it was a rather peaceful experience. I've heard that the school has gone to crap though and that saddens me :(

There was never physical bullying so much in my high school as emotional bullying. Mostly from girls to other girls. (Then again I didn't really pay attention to boys until my junior or senior year of high school, so maybe the guys had it different.) There was a lot of rumors about this girl or that one being promiscuous, so then all the girls, popular or not, would be expected to turn on that one girl until it blew over.

It made me sad when I'd walk into a bathroom, see a girl crying and ask her what happened, and she'd say someone said she slept with a guy and it wasn't true but no one believed her and now she's the target. :/ One of my pals had a couple months of trouble because at a high school dance she ran into the bathroom and took a pill, and people started saying it was a birth control pill so she must be a ***. It was an aspirin, lol. She had a headache and took an aspirin. >.>

Damn Liela. x.o Things like that really didn't happen! I mean of course there were rumors, but never something so slight would cause it. I live in a small rural town, so pretty much everyone knew everyone's business, lol. Most of what you heard was true to a degree. <.<;

I guess I was sort of a chameleon. I hung out with everyone, didn't really care about groups. I kind of dressed like that too. One day I'd be all rainbowed out with my bright pink hair, girly clothes whatever. The next I'd be in all black, sporting a White Zombie shirt or something with the same pink hair! As cliche as it is, I was just me. :D

The more advance the technology gets the less we care about personal relationships and communication. How many times are you with someone and they check their phone all the time?
This is true. The more connected we are, we seem to be less connected personally. We can communicate from anywhere, anytime. Yet actual personal communication is horrid, lol.

I honestly don't care if people check their phone as long as they can keep up with the conversation. So obnoxious when you're mid conversation and you have to repeat yourself because someone got a text or FB alert. <.<;

Bullying? Hmm... Didn't really happen to me. I suppose it happened to a few people at school. But most of it was pretty tame and only verbal abuse. While I know saying it was tame is kind of opinionated, since I was the one who talked to all the people who were bullied I kinda understood how they took it better than a lot of the other people at school. They had good attitudes about it, they knew how to ignore the idiots who thought they were superior.

As for my own experience. Everyone liked me for some reason... never could figure out why. I always thought I was one of those geeks that everyone would make fun of. Realized end of Junior year/beginning of Senior year that I was actually the cool guy that everyone knew and respected for one reason or another. >.>;

I actually sorta enjoyed Highschool.

Bullying was horrible in my school. I was always a nerdy loner, but never personally had any problems. I think this is partially because someone tried it with me once and I kicked his ***. I luckily had older cousins and a father who felt it necessary to take up for myself and taught me a lot of self defense stuff.

Now, as I got older and entered high school, I was still a loner, but somehow was accepted by everyone.

Things are definitely worse now than even when I came through school. Kids these days aren't taught to respect one another. I fear it is spiraling out of control now.
