I wanted to play that this campaign, but the DM said no to evil characters :(

That's when you hand him/her a pretty looking 20-sided dice and a $5 bill.

Last night was our first session with this campaign, so we had to have the usual characters meeting for the first time.

I was trolling pretty hard. Bluffed so much as I had no reason to trust them. Also totally pinned down the barbarian and shoved his face in the mud. He wasn't too happy <.<

It seems like it's a lot of improv with some back story and a person to guide the story. There is dice rolling to find out how much damage you do, how much HP people have, and abilities you can use. Using multiple dice with multiple sides. 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 20

Let's say you want to examine an item laying on the ground. A Wizard could find out if it has any arcane/magic imbued in it, or a Rogue might know the history of the item if it's just a normal item. But in certain ranges of the dice you might find out more about it. Let's say you pick up the item and it's a grail. If you roll a 1-3 you pick up the grail and just think it's a normal cup. If you rolled a 4-7 you might notice there is something engraved on the grail. etc.

If you roll a 20, you might find out this grail is an ancient artifact in a great war and is worth thousands of gold, but there is also an evil that curses the person carrying it and their HP is halved.
There is no 18 sided die >.> There is a 4 sided die though.

He'd probably take the bribe but not change his mind on the no evil characters lol.

I bought a container of all the dice. Mine are a dark blue with gold numbers.
...My first set was dark blue with gold numbers. Coincidentally, I have the most luck with that set as well.

So is there some kind of set interface online? Is the history/stats set or do the people playing kind of make up the story guided by the DM as they go along?

There are worlds and monsters that are already created, but the story is created by the DM. Of course the players influence it thus changing the story, but the main plot is the DMs job to create.

Also many DMs use their own worlds, but the monsters and equipment should be from the books to maintain balance.

There's actually tons of books lol. Monster manuals, equipment guides, player's handbook (basic & necessary to have), necromancy, dragon guides, deities, and many more. Can really do lots of stuff.

I once downloaded all the books from version 3.5. It was like 7 gigs.

I might still have it, but I haven't ever used it.
I have a bunch of them as pdfs. Even a blue magic book... I regret opening that one. Ever.

4-6 people in the party. 6 is the highest I'd go, and that can be a bit much especially with new players just due to the time it takes to get through anything.

I don't think that is the actual game we had, because I don't remember it being in color. Basically you had a knight that ran around in Dungeons killing stuff. You couldn't see where you were going, as the map and paths opened up once you went through them.

Unfortunately, since this was the early 80s, I don't remember a while lot of it, other than I really liked playing it.

Before your time? How old do you think I am? O.o They're still making new versions, 4.0 came out a couple years ago (and I don't use it xD).

Ramuh.Rowland said: »
Dame, figure out how to make a forum based D&D game.
Really wouldn't be that difficult, but would just be very slow paced. Only real obstacle to overcome would be to ensure people aren't cheating.

Edit: Actually if the DM handles all dice rolls that would eliminate that.
