oh I can concur.
I prefer openoffice anymore anyway, but the point being is some classes require students have microsoft office to use with some program they use. (2010 too)
one of the classes I took a few years ago and did just fine, with my old copy of office xp, this new system is just forcing people to upgrade their program when the old one would suffice, it's microsoft butt kissing.
It disgusts me.

Horridly user unfriendly. Totally misses the point of having a GUI data editor in the first place.
Awful interface.
Notoriously bad save corruption problem.
Horrifically bad z-indexing capabilities.
Average load time is about four times that of MS Word.
If OOO/Libre office would hire a team of designers and worked on code optimization and user experience, it would still be mediocre compared to MS Office.
Hate on MS all you want, I'll agree with it mostly, but Office is probably the best MS product and the best office suite in the world right now.

the load time I'll give you though, but is worth the free price.

most people are too stupid to know where their files are saved to be able to copy them to usb to print from another pc, somebody will have to show them anyway. (but still I don't see how it's any different).
edit: running it right now, and realized that after the first run it trays and loads much faster, can be good and bad.

also M$ does have a student package that give office professional for $100 vs the $600 or whatever it is
