Could be a shitty modem or router perhaps.

Considering it's a brand new modem/router, if it's this then i'll be just as pissed at them for giving out ***hardware :(

Since I reinstalled FFXI I've been suffering horrific lag spikes, it will r0 for a good 5-10 seconds several times a minute during daytime hours, hence I can't do anything except solo NMs for gil that I know can't kill me until this ***gets sorted. I have no idea what's wrong because it never used to do this and every other net application works fine. It is so *** frustrating.

you doubt it though you've had repeating issues with multiple ISP's?
It happening with multiple ISP's either shows that A) both are shitty or B) your home network is shitty in some way.


Do you connect directly into your modem with ethernet or do you have a router?

Ive never had luck with the modem/routers you get from the ISP's. I always go and buy my own. They dont work for ***.

Router, if I wanted to physically connect i'd have to get someone to run an ethernet cable from my room to the room that has that ***i it :x

yeah that could mean many different things.
your wireless card could be malfunctioning
your router could be malfunctioning(if you have both a modem and router)
if you connect to a wireless modem/router i'd recommend disabling your wireless and trying the connection wired in to see if the service drops out like that still yet. if it doesn't that will verify that it's going to be a wireless specific issue and not an issue with the service actually dropping out but the "wireless signal" dropping out.

yeah that could mean many different things.

That could be the problem.
And if you see that it correlates to him being there yeah that'd be the case.
But other than that just blaming it on the ISP when your wireless is *** up might be misdirected.
I say this because I talk to people with the same problems you have on a daily basis and that usually ends up being the problem.
Shitty routers and shitty wireless adapters.
