It's often more about the connections you make, too. Job Corps should be good for you regardless of getting that concrete degree. If only for the fact that you won't be spending as much time on web forums or whatever.(Maybe find a job that lets you spend time surfing the web)

Even working a "low end" job for some time, you'll meet some people who realize you aren't HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE(many people are..) and may want to help you out on your way to finding a career you enjoy.

So? Anybody else would have been working or learning in that time.

Sitting pressing F5 is not a job.

Frankly, I'd be happy with a receptionist job in a medical office again, or a mindless data entry position.. but no others will hire me, for the fact I lack a work history and the whole High School thing. :/

The one I had for a short while, was in a chiropractor's office. lol..

Tbh it was probably less the lack of work history and moreso the GED/Diploma thing. Unless you were looking for specific jobs that needed prior history (dunno why you would if it said that). I had poor work history (alot of walkouts), which made it probably infinitely harder to find a job. Harder to explain away bad decisions than no decisions to interviewers. :/

Yeah, you could always BS and say something about having to keep care of someone sick in your family for that time if they were really concerned about it.

Whereas if you were fired from a job, they'd be a lot more concerned about the reasons why. They certainly wouldn't want the same to happen when they employ you.

It depends what you're looking for if you're going to take GED/diploma vs lack of work history.

If you were to apply to let's say, some place like Wal-mart as a part-time cashier or something, a lot of the time they will hire people with no experience/no highschool education (and I am sorry if I offend anyone!)

When I think of a medical office, I think of needing some post-secondary education, and some form of work experience, and here is where having that part-time job at Wal-Mart might come into play.

You have to start at the bottom before you work your way up, if anyone catches my drift.

Rydiya will you wise up for god sakes. You say you have no work history yet you just said you used to work in an office. As a receptionist you must have shown strong organisational skills, accuracy in your work, responsiblity of dealing with customer enquiries and bookings and a good display of customer service. I don't think you realise the skills you can offer even from a limited period of employment. As for dropping out of school I think you will find most employers don't give a ***about that so long as you demonstrate the ability to do a good job.

Stop believing nobody will hire you, have you asked them before you assume your worthless. Believe in yourself for crying out loud, people have made a success out of themselves from a far worse background than you.

Yes, Sagi. I have asked. Every interviewer I ask, tells me, that because I failed to have a GED, and with my lack of experience, they would not hire me.

Not even chain retail stores will hire me, so frankly, it feels kind of hopeless.

It's not lying about employment. If they ask you "Why haven't you been working or trying to continue school during Months X, Year X?"

Are you going to say the truth, "Well, I was spending 16 hours a day on a video game web forum." or would you say something like, "I was looking for work, but couldn't find any. I also didn't have the money to return to school."

Most people won't care that you didn't work, especially if you say the magic words "bad economy".

Sounds like your trying to make up excuses again. Reason I say this is because you don't get an interview if they are not interested in hiring you. You don't ask the person interviewing you, it's the other way around.

Regardless, you could get a job in Wal-mart or a factory job of similar stature no bother, you don't need qualifications/experience as long as you can stack shelves. So why havn't you? You are honestly going to sit there and tell us you have failed to get a job at wal-mart for four years?

As much as I hate to admit it? Yes. I can't even get a job stocking shelves at a retail chain.

I realize, a large part of it, may be caused by where I'm from, but that doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

Actually, you'd have a harder time finding a job at "chain" type businesses due to the lack of GED/High School Diploma. Many of them actually set a business-wide standard/requirement for employees. It's not good for self-esteem to go to a company/business that you know you're more than capable of working in, and having them tell you you're not qualified.

You'd be better off finding a job with a small, local business. But they usually require a different "screening process". Are you trustworthy? Are you intelligent? And these situations are where "it's not what you know but who you know" comes more into play.

Honestly, I've considered it before. Up until the point I realized I'd have to wake up early everyday for boot camp. And the fact that they basically own you afterwards. Great benefits, good pay, and they'll usually cover school costs. But if they need you for something, you have to drop whatever you're doing and be at their beck and call.

'Corps' sounds to military-ish for me. Do not want.

I'm ok :) We should chat sometime soon maybe. I saw a nice waistcoat in the sales!

I updated to the new MSN which I don't like, so I'm never on.

I still need one of those :/ I've spent way too much over the holidays and I don't know whether or not I'm going back to my job, so I'm trying not to spend.
