Bards Of FFXI Unite!!!

I'm glad to see all these updates and expansions to FFXI. The game seems to be getting better with every addition. But... will Bards ever see any updates or changes? Maybe some new songs? How about some job abilites? Playing Mage's Ballad 1 + 2 over and over and over and over and over and over tends to get a little boring. Maybe a couple more songs to play on the mob would be nice. Thats nice that Bard has a whole list of songs to play. But only about 4-5 of them really get used. SE, please help us few Bards out. There are still some us that use this job^^

You do have other songs you can give to mages. Etudes for instance are quite nice. BRD also has threnody, elegy, requiem, finale, and shoot even a charm song to cast on mobs (lolCharm <3).

And I honestly can say BRD is much more versatile than say COR for support JAs (pianissimo, troubadour, nightingale).

Probably why you're getting so bored is because most people want only a certain set of songs. And hey, you can always go /sch and use light arts/dark arts for a B+ status enfeeb skill to fool around with. Just slap on some oracle's gear and elem staff and there you go. Less bored.

BRD one of the 3-4 jobs that are wanted in almost everything the games has to offer?

I must say SE did say 2 Fanfests ago that BRD would be getting new abilities and song, unfortunately the only thing they got so far was the ability aka Pianissimo or h/e its spelled, and hey they Charm song is nice for merit pt's for one reason, its a free warp w/o exp loss

I feel like a broken record. Requiem fix Requiem fix Requiem fix. I couldn't care for anything else, I think brd is just fine the way it is.

I hate to love bard. I don't think they need much more of anything. I just like mine for merits... sadly none of my other jobs get any outside-of-LS-love.

How bout a patch that removes the +20 Arrogance effect?

BRDs need a JA like reverse pianissimo so you can make your Etudes AoE! that is all

Have the colibri charm you then let a PT member kill you. While you're charmed you won't lose EXP if you die.

I don't think BRD needs any sort of adjustment, but I'd still kinda like to see this. It could be fun to play with, although we all know that there's only one song we'd ever end up converting to AoE. I'm sure y'all can guess which song it'd be. :P

Then again, I think I spoke too soon. I'd like a JA to to delevel people with an attitude like that displayed in Winterlight's post. At least to 50, if not further. I deal with enough whiny *** in tells during events and from whiny gimp melees in merits. I'm sick of it. I want to have fun once in awhile on my other jobs, and if I can't have that (and God knows we BRDs can't have that!), I'll take solace in a hypothetical JA to punish others.

How about you get that impression of that one or two Bards you had in your party that thought you were an idiot, and look at BRD as a whole. Not all of us are like that. There are some of us who actually enjoy BRD and play it as a career job. Not all of us demand that Melees stand here, and the mages and PLD stand over here. Not all of us demand over 10k/hr. Shut up. And you wonder why there seems to be a shortage of BRDs (on Asura at least), we can't stand people like you.



On a happier note, do you realize how much faster Mana Burns in Mt. Z would be? AoE Sage and Learned Etude, then your Ballads for down time. :Q Uber~ ^^ I second this.

Brd should be happy they're the most in demand and the easiest job to play.

Brd honestly doesn't really need much to make it so much better to play. I've said it a million times too and I feel like a broken record, but a requiem adjustment would be amazing.

I've thought countless times how fun it would be to have the AoE JA....fortissimo maybe? Another DoT song wouldn't be that bad either. Elegy, threnody, ballad got boring like...I dunno...forever ago?

lets see having to put up 4 songs every 1 to 2 min. having to keep chains up, having to sleep adds, having to cure if we are sub whm, having to keep shadows up for /nin while keeping the 4 songs up at all times yea really easy job lets see what rdm,whm sch have to do in merits cure haste and erase what do DDs have to do hmm lets see just dd yea bard is the easiest job to play

Back to the original point the poster made, which I don't think has been addressed fully yet... I don't think BRD needs a patch, but rather player mindsets need a patch. It's the concept that "BRD is only useful if it sings these four songs" that force you to only play those four songs.

One of the very best BRDs I exp'd with was when I was THF/RNG, trying out how well TP could be gained via ranged attacks, and instead of just buffing my haste and attack, which would have been a waste of haste, they used archer's prelude on me to buff my ranged accuracy and overwrote haste, and it easily helped me hit accuracy cap with a C+ weapon.

So I would say try to think outside of the box, but I bet 2/3 party leaders wouldn't approve of the BRD being cleaver and giving more intelligent buffs than just splattering the melee with haste+attack. It's the same problem I always rant about with NIN being a competent DD, but never seen as such because people are too closed minded.

Would be nice to give BRD an "AOE" JA for songs that would normally be single target, and vice versa except Single Target JA for COR.

On an unrelated note I thought a cool idea for a COR JA would be to give them something that would revert back to their previously made roll should they land on unlucky or bust that way they have a second chance at landing something good. The only gambling/casino name I could think of that would be relevant would be "Insurance" lol.

Fold completely negates the buff/bust effect. My idea would be a "roll back" so you have a better chance at not screwing up or settling for something unlucky.
