The mentally disabled state of Texas (Loud and clear)

Asura.Melbufrauma said: »Texas isn't so bad, every state has their own obscure laws (in NY it is illegal to spit on the sidewalk). And every state has its loonies. TX has beautiful women, damn good food, people are friendly and its where all the jobs are. TX itself has a higher GDP than Australia and Canada, in fact if TX was its own country, it'd have the 13th best economy in the world.
And believe it or not, it is the people who created that.
Not any one business. Not any one government. Not any one viewpoint.
It was by the will of the people and our beliefs that created this paradise among lands.

All of our problems would be solved if the South just plunged into the sea! All of it! And take Florida with you.

Look on the bright side Texans, you aren't the punching bag Mississippi is.

So, where are you from Sparthosx?
The wonderful liberal utopia of New York City. Living in the Rome of the 21st century all other states are but mere provinces to us enlightened ones. When I'm not picking up pieces of gold from our paved streets, drinking ambrosia from my chalice or approaching nirvana I frequent these boards to impart some of my superior wisdom upon the unwashed masses.
We're also really humble here. Frank Sinatra did a wonderful job of capturing our spirit.
By somebodyloved 2013-07-05 11:51:48
I can tell.
From one of the places best known for handling different ideas, you certainly show that you are far from the norm.
So tell me this. If your wish comes true, then what will you do with half of your stuff no longer available?
Gas will skyrocket. Price of cloth and food will skyrocket. Quality of production will plummet. This is among things that I know will happen on the top of my head. There are many other items that are not apparent to me at the moment that will happen. Some good, mostly bad or will alter your life dramatically one way or another.
Plus, you don't see anyone wishing death and destruction on you or NY. That already happened. It was a very bad thing and I personally do not wish to see it happen again.
You on the other hand....

The North had a hissy fit and decided to "liberate" us together again.
/sarcasm
But yeah. The North would be financially harmed too much that they would just "liberate" us from ourselves.

OMG, people! Can Sparth have a little fun with this in his own way? Nobody found the humor in his light, elusive doses of humility while poking fun at the smug stereotype from his own state?

Everyone has their own concept of reality. Better that you find that out now than later. I'm not a FFXI player who dabbles in politics, I am a political person who dabbles in FFXI. I was not the one who introduced the left-vs-right concept in this thread, and in fact that was probably a fair assessment of the spirit of the OP. I don't need lecturing about political realities or dime store philosophy. I have my beliefs and they are well-founded. I can disagree with people who intellectually come to different conclusions and we can learn from each other. Dealing with people who serve as parrots repeating nonsense is a different issue, and yes, that is most of what gets said about the South, including Texas.
It wasn't a direct diatribe against you personally. I understand your viewpoints, although I have only seen you in this thread (you look to be a poster who speaks their mind a lot, which is kindof like the old me before I left FFXI a few years ago. I grew up since then and learned the best way to present an argument is not to be a totalitarian when it comes to arguments).
I believe that compromise and listening is a two-way street. In order for you to get people to listen to you, you must yourself listen to people. And know your audience. Most posters on this website are children between the ages of 13 to 25. Most of them are still in this dreamland of what liberal ideas promises, but never produces.
If you really want to reach out to those people, then you have to structure your argument that shows a valid viewpoint instead of absolution. Notice that my speech to you personally is a lot different than before, and that is because I respect your viewpoint and understand that your mind works differently than others on this forum.
But I also believe that you need to lighten up. This isn't an hardcore Beltway forum. This is a game forum. Most, if not all viewpoints on politics are limited to what they listen to from mainstream media. Until they realize that they are just listening to propaganda (on ALL media outlets, not just mainstream) and base their viewpoints off of how one reads behind the lines, then you have to treat them as children who only likes flashing things. Insightful and condescending at the same time. Nice job!

Where are you getting your information? TX has a lower GDP then both of the countries you listed
Texas has a GDP of $1.207 trillion
Australia has a GDP of $1.372 trillion
Canada has a GDP of $1.535 trillion $1.844 trillion (was looking at PPP GDP by mistake)
If TX was it's own country it's GDP would drop dramatically for a variety of reasons.
1. Texas has 25 military bases and installations
2. Texas has some of the largest defense contracting company's in the US (which translate to a hell of a lot of money in DoD contracts)
3. A lot of the industry has grown because of the previous two points.
4. If TX became it's own country it would lose those first two points.
5. Not to mention that whole not being backed by a stable currency

You know, I'm originally from Massachusetts and moved down to Oklahoma.. and I will say that the people and the atmosphere is a lot nicer than in Massachusetts.
What I mean by "atmosphere" is that people are a lot more friendly and willing to chat and talk and help. In Massachusetts, I'd be in Walmart recommending someone in an aisle to not try something because it didn't taste good (or vice versa), and I would get a death stare and walk away. Here, it's the opposite.
Again this is just from my experience, but in the two months I've been here, I've had better overall people experiences than my whole life living in MA. That has to say something.
Iunno, I've met some people from Texas and they're nice people.. I think that it's the 1% loonballs that give it a bad reputation. Kinda like how Boston does to MA, lol.
Also, wasn't George W from Massachusetts?
Mitt Romney was from MA.. :|

Jury Acquits Texas Man For Murder Of Escort Who Refused Sex
A Texas jury acquitted a man for the murder of a woman he hired as an escort, after his lawyers claimed he was authorized to use deadly force because she refused sex.
Ezekiel Gilbert shot Lenora Ivie Frago in the neck on Christmas Eve, after she denied his requests for sex and wouldn’t return the $150 he had paid her, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Under Texas law, an individual is authorized to use deadly force to “retrieve stolen property at night,” and Gilbert’s lawyers cited that provision as justification for Gilbert’s action, reasoning that Frago had stolen $150 from him by taking his money without delivering sex. In a police interview played for jurors, Gilbert “never mentioned anything about theft,” a detective told the San Antonio Express-News. Frago, who was 21, was critically injured and died several months later.
While the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida has generated notoriety for NRA-backed Stand Your Ground laws, which authorize the unfettered use of deadly force without a duty to retreat in defense of one’s person or home, Texas’ exceedingly broad law goes well beyond this, to allow deadly force in protection of any piece of “tangible” or “movable” property.
The Texas provision authorizes deadly force not only to “retrieve stolen property at night” but also during “criminal mischief in the nighttime” and even to prevent someone who is fleeing immediately after a theft during the night or a burglary or robbery, so long as the individual “reasonably” thinks the property cannot be protected by other means.
This shockingly broad statute authorizes individuals to take not just law enforcement, but punishment, into their own hands and impose death for alleged offenses that would never warrant the death penalty even if the person were convicted in court. But even in light of the expansive vigilante justice made legal by the statute, it is difficult to see how Gilbert’s behavior was justified, given that escorts are not entitled to deliver sex under the law, and delivering sex for money is an illegal transaction.
