| | Delve Boss Battle Status Update
Hello. Iwagami here.
I’d like to make an announcement about the Delve boss monster battles.
While I’m sure some of you are already aware, there have been groups that have beaten a couple of the Delve boss monsters. The first group accomplished this about 10 days ago and more have gradually begun to beat them. The bosses that have been beaten thus far are Muyingwa and Tojil.
For the party setup a couple of notable jobs were geomancer, ranger, scholar, and dragoon; however, depending on the group the jobs of their party members were different, and I have been watching everything with a lot of interest to see the differences in strategy and where emphasis is being placed on in the fight.
Dakuwaqa has still yet to be beaten, so please try your best to defeat this boss monster!
Just wanted to let you all know!

| | Matsui: Delve Boss Strategies
Hello, it's Matsui.
Thank you for your feedback.
Because many of the posts here are talking about Delve, I wanted to make a few comments on what I've read.
First,
As it is now, although there are three different Delve bosses, the number of defeats of Tojil is substantially higher than the other two. It seems that most players have adopted a method in which they avoid the majority of Tojil's damaging abilities by stunning them.
It is, of course, possible to defeat these monsters in other ways that do not use Stun as significantly, as boss monsters are designed to be defeated in multiple ways.
With specific regard to Tojil, I'll give some more information. Tojil is similar to Achuka from the Wildskeeper Reive, and is adjusted to be able to be defeated within Delve. Both Tojil and Achuka, as you may notice, will occasionally be cloaked in flames. When in this state, there are certain powerful techniques and higher ranked spells which are utilized that are not otherwise used. It is important during the defeat of the monster to clear this state.
Throughout this thread, there has been a lot of information on the behavior of boss monsters, so I'll introduce one of those posts:
| | | I see a lot of people who are convinced that Stun is the only method of defeating these bosses. For the Morimar boss, there are things like Incinerating Lahar which can be completely avoided by ranged attackers and isn't used under certain conditions. The Foret boss has Marine Mayhem, which will always instantly kill people at a distance but only does damage to those close by. Also, even though the forest boss is water-based, it's designed so that it cannot always be Stunned. We will need to focus on other methods anyway, as I'm sure the Delve bosses corresponding to Lightning and Earth elements will not be stunnable. | | | To highlight one point, as the HP of boss monsters (including Tojil) is reduced or certain conditions are fulfilled, certain abilities replace other abilities, and it is important to note and plan for this when the boss is preparing to use a dangerous ability.
Since Delve fractures are easy to retry, please work on making gradual progress towards understanding the behaviors of the boss monsters. During this process, I believe that new methods of defeating these monsters will arise.

| | Matsui here.
Thank you for all the feedback.
I’d like to share this with you all based on the premises listed below:
As you all know, currently there are 3 Delve boss monsters, and of these Tojil has a significantly higher rate of defeat. The most predominant strategy being adopted for defeating Tojil is to continuously stop him from using his large move with Stun.
While focusing on Stuns is one viable method of defeating this boss, we've created these boss monsters so that they can be defeated through other strategies as well.
Since we are talking about Tojil, I will go ahead and keep using him as an example.
We've made it so strategies that apply to Achuka can be applied to Tojil.
Both Achuka and Tojil have times where they glow with fire. When this happens, strong abilities are used and Tojil's offensive magic rank increases. One of the major points of strategy for these fights is to knowing how to break this state.
I'd like to share a post that was made by a player that offers some insight into the behavior of other boss monsters:
There seems to be a lot of people who think the only way to deal with these monsters are by using Stun. For the Morimar boss, if you fulfill the right requirements he won't use Incinerating Lahar (AoE weakness). For Hennetiel's boss, as long as you get close, Marine Mayhem (AoE instant death) will only deal damage. Spec wise it seems there are a lot of things for Hennetiel's boss where stun does not work.
Earth and lightning based Naakuals will also be coming I'm sure, as well as their Delve counterparts, and I doubt that stun will work on them.
So don't worry, this isn’t going to be a game focused on stunning. |
In other words, as the HP for boss monsters falls (including Tojil), in exchange for an increase in certain stats, other stats will be lowered, and when it comes to strategy, it's important to pay attention to variations so you can prepare and guard against dangerous abilities.
We've made it easy to retry Delve so that it's easier to develop strategies, so please keep trying to gradually figure out the strategy by understanding the monster's concept and behavior. With that said I believe that you will all be able to develop various strategies for defeating these monsters.

Hi there, Producer Tanaka here.
You defeated my precious creations have you? I'll have you know in the next version update I'll be personally punishing GEO, SCH, DRG and RNG by introducing a series of balancing measures designed to decapitate whatever usefulness these jobs had.
Additionally, Tojil will be set to use Meteor every 30 seconds and Muyingwa will have the ability to use an attack that ejects players from the battle arena.
Just wanted to let you all know!

Slightly creeped out that they're just hanging out watching people fight. It's like the Adjustment Bureau or something. I knew of course they could do it, but it's weird to hear about.

It makes sense though, at least if you were the type of company that wanted to take their updates seriously so they could make adjustments quickly after release.
I remember reading about a few GMs talking in say (accidentally) during the release of Pandemonium Warden. I don't know how long they were actually required to watch the 18 hour long battle, but I do remember seeing a screenshot of the chatlog.

I should hope they do... All the FFXI employees should require you to watch some players actually playing the game if not play themselves. Perhaps they'll get a better understanding of how to make worthwhile adjustments and see a few things from player eyes.

Rukenshin never made his Yoichi. I did update my livejournal at that time as I was in that LS,(http://tkeichan.livejournal.com/2008/08/10/), but rukenshin was the one who updated during the fight. I had screenshots of the GM misstelling also, but after changing computers, I no longer have them. However, I was able to dig this up:
Only people still playing from that screenshot is Shinote, Miggy, and Me (Simozene). PW literally destroyed our LS because everyone moved to WoW after that...

We need more slots to hold gear. D gear + skirmish + coalition revive Balyd gear, and no increased innovatory. It is a crime.

RNG, GEO, SCH I can understand being important points in those delve boss battles. but Drg sorta baffles me. Were they used simply for Angon? in which case that is hardly worth mentioning over say RDM for casting Dia3. What was the purpose of the post? was it to say "hey look! WAR/SAM/DRK aren't the only DD jobs that matter! Also WHM/BRD/COR aren't the only support that matter! Our battles rock and our game's job balance isn't completely ***!"?

Apparently, the RNGs subbed DRG for the enmity reset when needed.

25% Defense loss is HUGE and can be critical at times. If I'm not mistake, it also stacks with Dia III, granting a 40% loss. Not to mention that given DRG's jump effects, it can reduce the enmity of the target behind you, and yourself, solidifying hate on the designated tanks.
Considering that Stardiver and Drakesbane are no joke in the hands of skilled dragoons.

I don't think they stand there watching. You would think that they would analy destroy a good chunk of people if they did so, for obvious reasons. X mob dies, an alert is sent, logs are read, done. Much less complicated.
Pretty sure someone called GM and asked them to come see for PW.
