Anyone been to any big Anime conventions in North America? Always wanted to go to one and was wondering which ones are the really good ones. Preferably somewhere in Canada, though the States are fine too.

I've been to a few cons - Anime Milwaukee, ACEN, AX and Fanime (got some pics up on the sidebar here). My favorite as far as what the convention had to offer was AX - they have industry panels there as well as concerts. 2011 had both the Kalafina (Madoka Magicka ED song band) concert and Miku Hatsune concert, both of which were really good. A-Milwaukee and Fanime are both kinda hang-out-with-friends conventions...a bit less to do there, but still good (Fanime moreso). ACEN's also the same, although I feel like ACEN may be the weakest of the cons I've been to. They've got a lot of issues to work out - just take a look at the suggestions/gripes section on their forums...things have been a bit out of control.

As for the topic itself, I've been pretty crazy about the animus and mango over the years, though I've toned it down since. Got myself some DVDs, expensive animu figures, even, uh...suggestive doujinshi. I like the art! But I refer to that stuff as "sadlife", for obvious reasons :(

Latest anime I finished were Psycho-Pass, Robotics;Notes and Shinsekai Yori. All of which were good, but not great. I'm extremely lazy about keeping up with anime but I want to finish the latest Minami-Ke and Hidamari Sketch, JoJo, and watch Shingeki no Kyojin.

I keep with Naruto and One Piece, though Naruto moreso (mainly cause of the Shinobi world war). Dropped Bleach years ago. There's other stuff, though I'm lazy about it too.

I attend Otakon (Baltimore) on an annual basis with my girlfriend (also a cosplayer, and former FFXIer). One of the largest on the East Coast, along with Anime Boston, Katsucon (D.C.), and DragonCon (Atlanta). I can't afford any more than Otakon myself though, so no opinions on the others.

My friend said Anime North in Toronto, ON is pretty big. Anyone ever been? That's closest to me so I was thinking of going next year.

Ok, this is going out to anyone who's building prop swords...or anything with a handle that needs to be made as a separate piece...with wooden or solid handles.

1. If you can, use T-nuts and embed them into the handle and the blade. I didn't for this one, but they will let you break down the piece like a pool cue (This is great for long stuff like polearms and staves!).

2. Make sure you drilled the hole the right diameter. I'm sitting here making my palms sore trying to twist a 5/16" bolt into a 1/4" hole. Derp.

In other news, I've started watching Read or Die on Crunchyroll. I remember seeing bits of it on Anime Unleashed (back when G4TV was TechTV...and before G4 became the trash it was), but that was so long ago that the only character I vaguely remember is Yomiko (Agent Paper)...anyone know where I can pick up (or watch) the OVA that precedes the anime? It apparently fills in a lot of the questions about the start of the anime...

Edit: In case my utterance of "Light Staff" on wasn't a hint, I am (trying) to take a AFv2 WHM to Otakon (though...I might just change the hat to be more like the Empyrean one, I hate the penis look of the original), with Kirito on Friday, FFXIV's Bard on Saturday, and WHM on Sunday (and maybe Thursday for pre-registration). Now...who said a staff is my only choice of weapon prop? I figure...why not something quick and dirty? Well, it'd be dirty from a gameplay standpoint, though I doubt it'd be recognizable without the trademark red-and-white outfit...

Ok, enough nerding out, that was out of place for this thread, no? Maybe? This is anime/manga, after all...but cosplay is part of the otaku life too...

While not exactly Anime stuff this does fit into cosplaying. Would anyone wear this in public? I know I would. xD

This one I definitely want.

Yup, these are based on the Assassin's Creed franchise. The top one is the Kenway Jacket worn by Connor in Assassin's Creed 3 and the second one is a more modern Assassin outfit. IMO they both look sick.

Ahh okay, I see now, thanks. I noticed the hood of the 2nd after I read what you said.

I've heard a few people mention Tower of God. I've been following it also and think the plot is building up with the Workshop battle in the works.

I've also been following a few other manwhas (if that is the right word) and mangas from Korea: God of Highschool, and Highschool. Has anyone else read them and what do you think of em? I personally enjoy both of them to a degree.

Think is some Animes do filler really well. Fairy Tail fillers are pretty good. I also liked the Soul Vampire filler in Bleach.
Bountou's and i thought for filler it was indeed well written.

Also not quite anime or least its canon form but who here watches/enjoy's DBZ abriged?

High School is set to a modern day & time. The main character Joe Pae's goal is to 'create a new empire' of sorts. He's essentially going around to different schools and picking fights with different gang leaders and forcing them to join his empire. Lots of fighting with a good splash of comedy. This is the more realistic of the three. Wish there was more translated.

God Of High School's setting is also in Korea. It focuses around a tournament (God of High School) to find the strongest fighters in all the highschools of Korea. It starts off realistic-like but quickly gets a supernatural feel when the fighters start using abilities that summon spiritual attacks. I like the art a bit less, but I still enjoy it. It's a manwha thats in all color.

Tower of God definitely strays away in terms realism and fits more along the lines of fantasy, among others. It follows Baam as he climbs the tower in search of his friend Rachel (some translations her name is different) I suggest reading this one first, although it's hard to explain describe. Look it up on Batoto :D

Anyone see Code Geass: Akito the Exiled and read Code Geass: Renya of Darkness? If you've seen Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion it's worth getting into these. I'm hoping the OVA and manga will reveal more and possibly lead to a season 3 of Lelouch of the Rebellion or at least give us additional information as to what happens after.

All hail Lelouch vi Britannia!

The Company first wrote "Lahel" because that's how they say Rachel but probably found the real spelling somewhere, like the fan café thing or SIU's blog.

They had the same problem with Zahard because he spelled it Jahad once and then Zahard lol

I honestly haven't watched much of Code Geass. Just didn't have an opportunity to do so. I've read a bit into Renya's story though. So I may give it a shot someday :D

Asians don't seem to realize that foreigners read their stuff and never clarify how it's spelled (when it's not a Korean/Japanese/Chinese name)

This thread needs more Titans.

I watched the 5 episodes that are out so far, thoroughly enjoyed them, then caught up on the manga and thoroughly enjoyed it too. If anyone feels like getting in on something still relatively new (compared to something like One Piece) I'd recommend it.

I'd prefer them using "giant" because the only place titan is mentioned is in the title (which is horrible lol) and maybe one more place I think. One of those extra info things I think says "Titan Field" but that might be the same guy who named the manga in English lol

I really like how they've done the 3D gear and the high quality animation though Mikasa looks a little strange >.> The giants too, that reddish color doesn't really suit them imo :| It's a weird color

Edut: Apparently it was Giant Field and not Titan Field

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion was really amazing, you need to see it. It had one of the best endings in the history of Anime in my opinion. Seen and read quite a few and still nothing beats it.

I'll make an effort to watch it sometime. I haven't watched too much anime since Fairy Tail went on break. I've mostly been watching old stuff recently.

Oh.... Scryed! Has anyone ever watched that? I get the urge to watch that every 6months-1year, lol

I have watched and still have my DVD set for S-Cry-ed. It was a decent series and the final fight in it was the most brutal fight in anime i have seen in a while. Better than most of the DBZ fights even later on in that series.

Well I was bored and was looking at AMVs. This one is a really good one of the game and Anime, Tales of Symphonia.

Also to all PS3 owners and Tales series fans. Next installment of the series comes out June 8th. Looks cool as you can follow the story line of two characters. This opening for Tales of Xillia looks pretty epic.

If you love Anime adventure and romance movies/shows, the Tales series games are basically just that. Dang, I wish they'd make a movie or show for every single on of the games in the series.

For the time bokan fans:
YouTube Video Placeholder

Yes, Doronjyo and gang were the heart of the show ! (Yatterman is just one of the series that spun of from Time bokan. All are quality stuff from Tatsunoko PRO)

Not very often you have shows where the villains are more fun than the heroes... lol

Edit: I'll leave this as a bonus lol
