It's Indiana Jones but instead he'll be called Iowa Jacobs.
He'll steal from museums to put items back into the tombs.
And to use up about 20 minutes of film, I'll get JJ Abrams to use lens flare in dark tombs.

Brilliant, like Robin Hood for historical artifacts. I'd Watch it.

Nobody owns the copyright to Hansel and Gretel or Abraham Lincoln. They can do what they want, doesn't mean you need to watch the knockoffs.

Why is it that when somebody complains about a particular aspect of culture, 99/100 times somebody's response is "Just don't participate"? I think he's more so complaining about the principles of low creativity and cheap knock offs of somewhat creative ideas.

It's not so much a lack of creativity but more that everything has been done in some form or another at this point. You can take just about any concept and if you look enough you will find a movie/book/game that has had it.

They are either out of ideas or to lazy to come up with something origional themselves. So they just remake everything. Its really quite sad.

No I understand that, but blatant rip offs of things that are hitting the spotlight is what the OP was referring to.

No, there are video studios that ACTIVELY rip off popular films. Not that they are running out of ideas and the "screenplays happened to be similar". Lookup 'mockbuster' and especially Video Brinquedo.

The problem i find is the mentality that ppl develop over them. I know quite a few ppl that watch these rip offs and treat them like they are the greatest movies/shows ever created. They are elevating sub-quality films to iconic status. And with most of the stuff coming out today being 'reality' or 'rip offs' the bar is getting lowered with every show.

Now granted, some of them are amusing. Ill always love spaceballs, but i wouldn't go as far to parade around talking about how its a true film classic of all the ages.

I agree, but if you look at it from a distance, you'll understand that the vision you explain is merely a hipster point of view.

Actually Space Balls is a pretty good piece of comedic gold.

It's public domain, don't watch it. You can't stop them lol. All you can do is support them by paying to watch it.

It's fine to complain, but I was pointing out that public domain means public domain. It's a separate issue from knockoffs that infringe copyrights. You can't go make a shitty starwars knockoff and expect to get away with it. Spaceballs on the otherhand does show the creativity parody can produce.

I didn't say not watching it wasn't an option -_-. And if you complain about something like that, odds are you aren't going to watch it anyways, so that advice is more or less moot. It's just a really lame piece of advice to give, considering the root of the actual complaint, not any one particular movie.

Also Godofgods parody =/= ripoff. parodies movies are intended to make fun of what they copy, not just ripoff their story/ride the coat tails of the current blockbuster.

to be fair I consider parody movies to be slightly "rip offs" and some of them are amazing.

Everybody needs to watch "Ratatoing" and "The Little Panda Fighter". Watching both in full is absolutely worth your time.

One interesting pair of movies I know of is Aladdin + The Theif and the Cobbler. TatC's original cut (1964) was in production long before Aladdin (1992) but funding setbacks keep it in and out of production for well over 2 decades.
Aladdin's producers used it as inspiration for setting and a few setpieces.
Aladdin's popularity sparks interest in reviving TatC, which is massively reedited to mimic the storyline of Aladdin and released in 1993.
A movie ripping off a movie that ripped it off? Ripoffception!! :P
