I was never trying to imply Ruin wasn't better than other options for one handed axe. Just that it's far less awesome when you can use Ukko's or Reso. The gummy bears seem about right.
It's supposed to be a bee of some sort, some of the new crafting items (ala Simian Mane) were prefixed with "Apian" which means "of or relating to bees."
The HQ version of the crappy staff is "Melisseus Staff." Melisseus means "Bee-man."

Given that there are lesser Gnats in the same screenshot too (implying maybe some sort of hierarchy system), I think its safe to assume SE will play around with some sorta pop culture reference, and name this Gnat King Kohl or something cheesy too...
