Talk less of the mass murders (who went unopposed), and talk more of the potential mass murders that were stopped, and there would probably be less people willing to attempt such a foolish thing.

How many more cyclical arguments about gun control can we expect this season? Just curious...I think Leila hit the nail on the head in the last gun control thread.

16 mass shootings in 2012. We'll have a debate for each in 2013 I imagine.

As long as some goofball doesn't show up who claims that the Holocaust never happened, I suppose it's acceptable.

To me the second amendment and fire-arms represent our freedom and preserves it.
You can have all the muskets you'd like. The authors of the constitution were not clairvoyant. Pretending their position on anything should be treated as absolute is infantile. At the end of the day, defending something on the basis of it being a constitutional allowance is nothing short of circular. You shouldn't be looking toward a document to explain why you should be permitted to do something, you should be explaining why you should be able to do what the document says you you're permitted to.

Because its written that when/if the government does overstep the bounds of their authority, it is the peoples duty (not even right, duty) to overthrow said government and provide new guards for their future security. - If you disarm your entire population, [government] you can do what ever you want, and they cant stop you.

I agree we should be talking about potential massacres averted but you know as well as I that bad news sells and in such a politically charged atmosphere both sides use tragedy in order to further what they are selling. Further, if someone averts a crisis we don't have any idea what exactly they were planning and how much damage they could have caused.

In the last month alone 4 school shootings were averted in the tri-state area by detective work and students reporting threats to the appropriate authorities. Here are some more links to articles on averted crises.

People die of gun violence in the inner city on a daily basis and as a nation we scarcely bat an eye at the fact. They're poor, hopeless and we don't have time for addressing issues as to why that happens. Shall we arm the denizens of the lowest ranks of society (besieged by guns) and leave them to enforce justice at the barrel of their guns as we slash budgets for law enforcement? Or should we be focusing on cleaning up the shittiest parts of the nation? Where is the action on the self-inflicted wounds we've made to the inner city like the war on drugs?

Further, I see many people screaming about the 2nd amendment. Should this not be a time to discuss those "well regulated militias" that are supposed to keep the government in check? Instead, we have guys making an argument that individuals should have a nuclear device. Seriously?

Lastly, the rhetoric of the extreme right only fuels this idea of using violence to get your ends along. The kind of vitriol I see being thrown out on the floor from elected is despicable and is stoked by outlets FOX riling people up and fostering paranoia.

The problem is the *** unconstitutional morons have no clue what "We the People" and "Bill of Rights" means. There is no discussion about the bill of rights period. latter of few are junkie burnouts, who would rather impose fiat orders rather than amend the constitution to achieve blind social justice for a unpopular view.

No one wants to admit that well over 70% of all violent deaths in america are gang related, rest in piss ***... How is the entire nation went through the civil war, brother killing brother in every family, nearly 1,000,000 americans died violently and untold hundreds of thousands grievously injured in four years and not one miracle gun control fix all issues law was imposed? You naysayers make me sick, hundreds of millions of people have died for the idea of freedom & rights of man in the course of history. Untold millions have died by the thoughts of few under guise of control. I ask you where do you stand in reflection to history? Why cant you trust and understand that our founding father made the Bill of Rights for everyone's protection in order to achieve prosperity as a whole. After all they did just seceded and topple the largest and most powerful oppressive nation the world has ever seen through the barrel of a gun. Shame on you for thinking you know more about life than them, I will take their words over yours any day. Again to all you limp wristed Benedict Arnold sell outs... *** you... ***!

I think it's more like he's being overly facetious.

Statistically, and historically I'm much more worried about the government overstepping their authority than a single person with a gun, I don't care if that gun is a flint pistol or a fully auto ak-47.

He believes he is a constitutional scholar or at least his knowledge qualifies him as one.

That and he's probably trolling to some degree, but his offensiveness doesn't make him amusing.

Maybe, if I didn't think the Noreastern states were on their own. Nobody from the south is going to come to NY to protest gun control.

There was a shooting at a community college (wasn't even college related it was a custody exchange issue from that I am hearing) near my home town. Usually it takes a couple of days to 2 weeks for a "small" story like that to hit, but since it was at a "school" it made CNN 6 hours later.....

Another dude gets shot up the road and doesn't even make internet head lines....

People need to wake up and realize that News Networks have agendas. This example right here is a good one. All they do is try to manipulate people and push sheepish people into thinking they can be safe. The government doesn't have to do any work anymore....

A large quantity of people in the south own guns, responsibly, why would they go preach about something as ridiculous and ineffective as "gun control"?

The Hitler thing has been done, we have a thread for that, not touching it.

The conclusion of that was what? Hitler liberated guns for all of his population except the Jews? I fail to see how that doesn't support the overall notion of "when the state takes away your guns, you are less safe".

Im not trying to legislate ***. Simply retardedly responding to retards on the internet. I mind my own business in real life, not to mention I stay clear the *** away from people like you guys to begin with. I only meant that, when HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE people own equally HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE amounts/types of weapons, it worries me.

I dont believe either of you are any more/less unlikely to flip your ***someday and pull something similar. Just sayin.

I would also like to say, it pleases me like you couldnt ever even begin to imagine, seeing so many second amendment gun nuts out there getting their panties in a twist. Like it or lump it america, if you cant get with the times, there are plenty of other places to live.
