Quote: Their exceptional magic defense and elemental resistance put them squarely in the tank category, along with paladins and ninjas. Quote: Pflug Quote: From Middle High German... ...1. plow, (UK) plough So Rune Fencers are going to plough all their allies? Rune Fencer is shaping up to be an Evasion tank for physical avoidance, those two JAs could be potent enough in tandem to actually cause it to evade high level things! We'll see. In combination with its power over magic resistance it should be interesting at the very least, and pending the power of Lunge it may turn out to be a decent source of DPS as well. Looking forward to this even more.
Even my THF has some trouble evading certain high level things, or at least enough trouble so that it's not worth it.
If they make Rune Fencer that good at dodging I expect lots of cries for nerfs. I quit over a year ago and not sure if anything new needs tanks.

PLDs are great for holding things and NINs are completely useless, but I don't think any fights really need a tank in the traditional sense. Leviathan.Comeatmebro

For an evasion tank to be viable, they'll have to dramatically reduce the risk of one-shot moves or at least focus them on multi-hit TP moves. With the amount of MP available today, damage mitigation is more about enmity loss than MP conservation unless a risk of death is involved. I'm sure they know this already, will be interesting to see if the enmity adjustments play well toward Rune Fencer.. their primary strength will be losing less CE if they're given notable evasion.
I don't think it's as much as the game needs tanks, but to give players who love tank jobs something with a twist.

So then they can be ridiculed and laughed at and told to go change to a real job? Yeah, just what the game needs. Are they still talking about fixing enmity? this one has the potential to be useful outside of holding a mob's attention and having it beat on them, unlike PLD or NIN. decreasing the damage their party takes/increasing resistance against shitty enfeebles (amnesia/encumbrance anyone?) and the potential ability to actually do more than 2% of the group's damage is still appealing.
Kimble2013 said: » Are they still talking about fixing enmity? the problem we should be worried about is if they consider the average useful PLD to have Aegis or not. If they do, then this job will be better, if they don't, then it's very pointless making a job from this perspective. Am I the only one who doesn't really see Rune Fencer's magic defense benefits as primarily targeting the user? Aegis is the strongest singular magic damage reduction tool in the game. Period. That's unlikely to change. However, Rune Fencer is bringing something entirely different to the table by allowing the RUN to put their defenses onto their entire party and/or shield them from debuffs. Aegis can't do either of those things

Aegis is great for taking a tier VIIDASSAFARWTFWEDASDX spell to the face but not great for resisting enfeebles and such. Thats what RNF will be for. edit: I've been INB4'd ;A; Valefor.Prothescar said: » Am I the only one who doesn't really see Rune Fencer's magic defense benefits as primarily targeting the user? After all the awesome concept art we get the same shitty JA animation for runes? It looks like they just reskinned the corsair roll animation for the effect too.
Still excited about the job, but that's really disappointing to see. Tickmeoff said: » After all the awesome concept art we get the same shitty JA animation for runes? I hope the "Elemental reistance down" ability also works for enfeebles....this could seriously be the job that can most assist with RDM,BRD,and BLM to land elemental debuffs. I know, I know...RDM is dead cause the mob says it is. As for the GS in the picture,I bet thats the RNF AF weapon. Hmm if I remember right isn't there -crit hit rate taken gear in the game? Sounds like there could start being builds for that if enough gear for runefencer.
Also am I the only one who wishes they would let you upgrade nightfall gs like they did with god weapons to make it more on par for current levels to be used one rune? The terror effect is already very potent even on big abby nms so would make a great weapon for a supposed tank job. Aegis can't do either of those things I keep saying this. If tanking comes back into fashion PLD is shaping up to be the safe choice for walling mobs and generally holding ***if you happen to wipe but RUN wants to be high risk, high reward tanking where more incentive is placed on strategic play, boosting magical output via debuffs, shielding allies from status downs through buffs and being able to deal damage in the process at the cost of not being self-sufficient. Can we Pre-order the EU verson yet? or can EU players with an EU client pre-order the US version and still be able to play the expansion?
